BUTLER’S CAFE EXPERIENCE – REALLY LIKE NO OTHER (I STILL CAN’T CONTAIN MY LAUGHTER) HAHA

This trip to Japan, I made it a point to do many things that I have never done before, and one of it is visiting a Butler’s cafe.

So what exactly is butler’s cafe? well, just think it like Maid’s cafe but with butlers (guys) in it. haha…

There are basically 2 main butler’s cafe in Tokyo, one is with a strong work force of Caucasians or any other nationalities, and another one is really pure Japanese work staff, and of course to try out the real thing, I went for the latter.

If I am not wrong, this cafe came about base on the characters of an Anime, as told by my travel partner. But it is never easy to book a slot there because they are always full, after scrambling down, I managed to find one and only slot during my trip and swiftly get it booked through their kinda complicated reservation system.

Too bad, I could not post more photos here because photo taking was not allowed, but basically I will tell you the low down of it.

1) Arrive at the requested time, must be 10 mins early

2) Greeted by Butlers (you got to choose how they will address you, kid you not, you can even choose to call yourself “princess” hahahaa… and pass all your handbags and belongings to them – no question ask. You MUST pass it to them.

3) The butlers could not speak English, so they will explain to you in Japanese the rules, and will guide you to your seat, AGAIN, you must remember you are the princess there, so you can’t even lift a finger to pull the chair out (A big NO NO)

4) Listen to the butlers explanation of the menu, choose from a variety of seasonal desserts, or main course, well basically, you got to order at least 1 set which comes with a drink. They are really nice people, so if you can speak Japanese, they will explain very detail and even recommend for you base on your likings.

 

5) Wait for your order and check out the crowd in the restaurant, we spotted many “mature single ladies” there in fact, and also many people celebrating their birthday there too.

6) During the whole experience, which is 90mins, they will keep coming to your table, to refill your tea, make small talks, check on you if everything is in order etc,  you got to remember one very important thing, if you do need to excuse yourself to the ladies, AGAIN, you got to wait for the butler to help you, they will carry your bag and guide you to the ladies, and after you are done, you got to wait at the exit for someone to bring you back to your seat.

So if  you are someone that is not very patient, you might want to take a rain check on the butler’s cafe excursion.

Overall, I did enjoy the experience in there, but there are also many hilarious moments though, like how some of the butlers, I suppose they are the supervisors, are indeed really old uncles like in their 60s. They dress impeccably and totally immersed themselves in the character, that is something that I have so much respect on.

And there was even one moment, we forgotten the butlers need to pull our chair when we stand up, and they were all in shock and scrambled around begging us not to move so they can help us, when we decide to take in our own hands, the reaction on their face really made our day, a whole bunch of nice people and a fun experience with the girlfriends, so try it out yourself and get pamper once in a while in an interesting settings in Japan. 🙂

Oh by the way, the desserts are pretty good too, they are indeed quite popular with their dessert menu and they even have a patisserie which is not very far from them that specialize in it.
