DAISO PRODUCTS REVIEW – HEALTHY SEAWEED WITH VINEGAR DRESSING

Hi there

I have been watching some Japanese variety show and the celebrities were saying food that has a sticky or slimy texture in nature is suppose to be good for health.

So food like lady’s finger, natto (fermented beans) and also grated yam (yamaimo) is used for mixing maguro tuna are very good for health, and as I was browsing at Daiso food section, I spotted this seaweed with wordings saying sticky seaweed, so you do the math, seaweed already is good for health plus a double dose of stickiness make it a mega health food! I guess I will give it a try 🙂

This dried seaweed pack comes in one portion which is for me, good for 2 – 3 people as a side dish, only takes a couple of mouthful anyway.

There is also a pack of black vinegar dressing for you to mix in, so you don’t even need to buy some healthy dressing to drizzle yourself.

Preparing it is actually rather simple, all you need is just water, it does not require any cooking, just rather use water to rehydrate it to it’s glorious form :)!

Directions :

1) First place the dried seaweed into a bowl, rinse it in water for about 15 secs then fill the bowl with tap water, ensure the water can cover all the seaweed.

2) Soak the seaweed for 3 mins, this is what the instructions on the packaging called for, however I recommend you to soak for 5 mins as the texture is quite chewy.

3) Sieve the seaweed our from the water and place it on a dish.

4) Drizzle in the black vinegar dressing and using a pair of chopsticks, mix the dressing into the seaweed in clockwise  motion.

5) You can opt to add some thinly sliced cucumber or lemon, to make it more appetizing or you can also add some grilled or boiled pork belly too 🙂

As I only have some Korean strawberry at home, I thought the sweetness of the strawberry will compliments the sourness of the vinegar and seaweed.

Taste wise, I felt it is ok, because first off I didn’t soak long enough so I find the texture still a bit hard. As to the black vinegar dressing, it wasn’t sour enough, unlike the mozukuzu which I like that is full of kick, the dressing was actualy kind of syrupy, but I would prefer it to be much more tart.

I will still buy it but most likely I will use my own dressing or add a little bit more oomph with some other sauces.

You can also try to serve it with some cucumber slices to make it a salad too 🙂
