It is easy to cook, yet you can have it with just white rice, or noodles, or even just indulge a little on its own. After trying out Dancing Chef pineapple fried rice, we also decided to explore a little more and try out some other sauces and spices they have under the Dancing Chef brand and decided to pair them out. 🙂

You can opt out on lemongrass and thai lime, but as I really want the flavour to be more robust and tangy, I added these extra perks. 🙂

Cooking it can nothing be more simplier.

1) Bruised the lemongrass and cut into small stalks (you can thinly slice it too, but I find it is cumbersome to pick it out from the soup after cooking, I stick to short stalks instead)

2) Boil a pot of water with the lemon grass for 5 mins or until you can smell the lemongrass aroma in the air

3) Add in the Dancing Chef Tom Yum spice pack and wait once bubble, add in the ingredients in following sequence

  1. Chicken Thighs
  2. Fish Slices
  3. Straw Mushrooms
  4. Shrimps
  5. Thai Lime (you can either put the whole thing in or squeeze the juice into the broth, point is not to add in too early, if not the soup will turn bitter)

4) Once all above ingredients are cooked, require about 5 – 10 mins, turn down the heat and sprinkle some corriander.

You can also add in some coconut milk if you prefer the Tom Yum soup with coconut milk. Great for noodles like white rice noodles. )

The sequence that I gave you is quite crucial as if you attempt to put the shrimps in early, the meat can become tough or vice versa, the chicken meat might not be cooked thoroughly.

Okay, as for the taste test, flavor wise, it is not strong, so it was a good choice to add in all those lemon grass and thai lime to just give it a boost of flavor, however if you prefer your tom yum soup to be clear and light, then this is something you might like to try it. No greasy pan nor floor, but a wholesome piping hot soup with no MSG no Preservatives, no Artificial colorings, that might just be the cure of a rainy night. 🙂
