HAR? HAR JEONG KAI BURGER WITH EVERYTHING WITH FRIES?

I have always passed by this shop at orchard central ground floor, right at the corner of the entrance. The very cute white and light pink sleek decor always attracted me when I passed by there.

However as I am always there with my family, we usually settled for other kind of food rather than head to a burger joint.

So it was a really rare opportunity when I can go out without my family to run all my errands and even better that means I can get to try out this place.

And here i am, standing at the ordering counter, I was greeted by some very friendly staff, who began recommending me their top favorites.

I have always been a big fan of har jeong Kai (cantonese prawn paste marinade) so to my horror, suprise they actually have a Har Jeong Kai burger on their most popular list. So after placing my order for a meal which comes with a burger, drinks and fries, I started to remember I read on a magazine before about this burger and no wonder ewf sounded so familiar. That’s right, it is Everything with fries! The casual dining at Joo Chiat which was started by Awfully Chocolate.

I have yet to try out Everything with Fries at joo chiat, but my sister did tell me how good it was so I guess this place should not be that far off.

Right after ordering my $9.90 combo meal, I went to the back of the shop where the white plastic seatings were. For a weekday afternoon at about 3pm, this place exudes zen like atmosphere. There are only a few student studying and also a couple of tourists there. Fabulous quiet time from all the hustle and bustle of Orchard road indeed.

What you do is you will get your drinks first, then proceed to pick your cutlery next to the order counter, and wait for them to serve you your piping hot burger.

Okay now lets get back to the food. My meal comes with a massive burger loaded with lettuce, tomato, mayo and a palm size har jeong Kai cutlet, sitting comfortably between two pieces of lightly toasted handmade buns.

The Har Jeong Kai burger actually does not look that big but wait till you opened up the top to see how massive the piece of Har Jeong Kai cutlet was!!

The chicken is covered in a light coating of har jeong crispiness, it is kind of a hybrid between the Har Jeong Kai you ordered from Zhi char store and also the Taiwanese fried chicken cutlets, coating was thin yet bursting with flavors.

The piece of chicken was super juicy and succulent with every bite a delightful salty rendition of har jeong crunch. Who says fusion is bad?

However, having to say that, I do find myself feeling a bit greasy after eating half of it. Not sure if it was because I was so famish from all the walking and chowing down a burger wasn’t the best of choice, but I got all full after finishing only half of the burger.

One of my most favourite part about the Burger is the hand made buns. The buns was lightly toasted and soft in the inside. There is this hint of sweetness in it so it actually help to lighten the greasiness of the chicken.

The sides which comes with the combo was a side order of French fries from a choice of various flavors namely original, garlic, salt and vinegar and curry.

Oh the meal also comes with a small scoop of coleslaw which I like, a little tarty and refreshing.

Drinks choices range from the main stream sodas to the usual ice lemon tea.

Next come the fries, the fries which I was really looking forward to was actually kind of mediocre, they were shoe string fries with a slight hint of vinegar in it. I guess I was expecting a massive explosion of tartiness, guess I should have ordered the original which the service staff recommended, but you know there is always another time. 🙂

Over at Ewf, there are also lots of beverages for you to choose from, you can just order a drink and spend the afternoon chit chatting with your friends too.

I was way too full to order dessert, in fact I couldn’t even finish the fries and also the burger, but the desserts look really really tempting too! Looks like very old school American desserts of pies and cakes.

I asked the staff if they sell whole cakes, and it is possible however they do not do any decorations to it which was kind of a pity. I think I will definitely try out their cake or tarts next round I visit them.

Overall, although I find the burger a little greasy on the palate, however you can’t beat the tastiness of it. For the price you pay, I still find it worthwhile, I will definitely go back there to try out other sandwiches and also original fries next time. Plus a side order of the addictive Har Jeong Kai but in nuggets form instead 🙂
