JI XIANG CONFECTIONERY – GOOD OLD TRADITIONAL ANG GU KUEH AT EVERTON PARK

Hi there

I absolutely loooooove ang gu kueh (S). Especially those wrapped in fragrant peanuts is soooooo good, I can swiftly polish a few in one go to be honest.

So I usually get my fix at some neighbourhood bakery shop where you can find some handmade ang gu kueh, but if you want to go for the “elite” group of kueh makers, then you might want to try out this confectionery store which sell freshly made ang gu kueh and it is Ji Xiang Confectionery. 🙂

Ji Xiang Ang Gu Kueh comes with this nice simple oriental box, okay I did buy 20pcs at one go so definitely a box to go. 🙂

And who would have guess it is just located under some HDB flats, I would ‘t even know it exist if I have not gone to Singapore Rubber Stamp to buy some rubber stamp. haha…

While you making your purchase you can see a group of workers consisting of mainly aunties busy making all these goodies. 🙂 Besides Ang Gu Kueh, I also see they are selling Huat Kueh as well.

There are also quite a few awards and also newspaper clippings about how good their kuehs are. 🙂

There are basially 6 kinds of flavours. And if you are lucky they may even have some special flavours, I still remember once I got to try out their cempadak flavour, pretty interesting

The flavours include:

  • Peanuts
  • Sweet Corn
  • Yam
  • Coconut
  • Salty Bean
  • Sweet Bean

My favourite is their yam flavour, their peanuts is good too, but the yam always won me over. Sweet corn is also another interesting flavour which I like too.

All priced at 60cents except Yam which is 70 cents each.

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love the color, so vibrant, yeah, I know mostly from the colorings, but somehow this occasional treat still does not deter me even though there is the “coloring issue” haha…

Every piece are perfectly shaped and firm. But what surprise me is just how soft and thin the skin is, even my colleagues commented that the skin is so soft and really good. I tried many ang gu kueh sold elsewhere before, sometimes it is either the fillings are not tasty enough or the skin was just so dry and thick.

However, you get very consistent quality here which is what I like about them.

Buy some for the elders to try out, I am sure they will agree with me, just like the group of aunties and uncles who was with me queuing to get their hands on this.

Ji Xiang Ang Gu Kueh at Everton Park is definitely one of the place that is worth going all the way to there to try out some really good traditional ang gu kueh. 🙂

Happy Snacking!
