KIDS SUMMER POPSICLE RECIPES – KIDS LOVE USING DAISO POPSICLE MOLD

Hi there

As the scotching weather persist or even escalate, there is just one thing in our household that has been currently under our grocery list – ice cream.. ice cream… more ice cream…

But of course even though ice cream are nice (… realllllly niceee), I wanted to try my hands, or rather my son’s hands on making our own ice popsicle to beat the scotching sun that is both nutritious and fun to do so that we both can spend some quality bonding time together.  🙂

So I went to Daiso to source for my popsicle mold, you can always use the ice tray in the freezer but I wanted to make it more fun for my son and also go back to the good old time during primary school where we usually buy these popsicle after lunch while walking back to school.

Anyway it is only $2 for a pack of 4 and you can definitely reuse this for various flavours of popsicle in your future popsicle expedition 🙂

The one that I got from Daiso has a mini opening which looks like a very short straw, I was not aware of it initially and taught it was supposed to be something perhaps to help you take the popsicle out of the mold easily.

But after reading the instruction, then I found out it is actually a straw! 🙂 so if the popsicle start to “sweat”, the mold servers as a holder and you can slurp up all the juices. What a clever way to avoid wastage and of course dirty floors….

As it is cherry season, I decided to use some of it to make this popsicle, and when I ask my son what color popsicle he wants, the first thing he said is “Orange mama”, and so there it is, orange jelly crytals plus peach in syrup. 🙂 So let’s see if duo flavours work.

Ingredients :

  • Cherries – 3
  • Jelly Crystal – half pack
  • Hot Water – 125ml
  • Room Temperature Water – 125ml
  • Tin Can peach – just take 3 pieces

1) I cut up all the cherries and also only use half a pack of the jelly.

2) Just pour half packet of jelly crystals into a cup, pour in 125ml of hot water to fully disolve the crystals, once all crystals are melted, pour in the 125ml room temperature water

3) Pour into the mold with only half the liquid, this should cover half of the mold, scoop in the chopped cherries. Kids love this, great for their motoring skill and you can even pop a few fruit in their mouth while they are “playing”.

4) Close the cover tightly. Summer Kids Popsicle Recipes

Make sure the popsicle holder (which is the stick) does not touch the liquid as we are doing two flavours in one this time round.

As you have to place it in the freezer for an hour, it is a good practice to put the mold in a plastic bag before you put into the freezer, as there is the straw opening and do not wish to have any cross contaimination with other frozen meats or seafood.

5) I did my fair bit of precaution when it comes to kids, nothing beats safety first. 🙂 So there you go, freeze for an hour and let the clock ticking begins.

6) Now comes the second tier of the popsicle, I took out 3 pieces of peach with just about a scoop of the syrup in it. Using a scissors I cut up the peach into small pieces, you can use a blender, but why bother when it is only for 4 popsicles, scissors work just fine. 🙂

After an hour, you can see the jelly is already hardened, if you want to rush it, actually 30 mins to 45 mins can do too, since you are going to refreeze it with the 2nd tier and freeze properly this time round anyway.

7) Once the first tier popsicle is done, pour the remaining jelly liquid into the mashed peach and let the child scoop in the balance peaches into the mold.

My son was so excited all the while when we were making this popsicle, and he was all good boy and sit quietly while manuvering the spoon to avoid spill. Good motor skills training, isn’t it. 🙂

After filling the peach to about 0.5cm from the brim.

Put the cover back on with the plastic bag to wrap it up. This time round 1 hour in the freezer.

Summer Kids Popsicle Recipes

Viola~! simple isn’t it? 🙂 Delicious healthy popsicle will be ready.

Summer Kids Popsicle Recipes

There is also one trick how to take the popsicle out, is to use a cup of warm to hot water, just dunk the mold in it for about 10 secs, and the popsicle will slide it out easily.

Summer Kids Popsicle Recipes

You might wonder why I used jelly crystals instead of juices, the reason is that I do not want the popsicle to “sweat” and drip while my son eats it. So by using jelly crystals, popsicle does not melt easily and also it gives it more bite, not purely icy, but this slight chewiness to it.

Summer Kids Popsicle Recipes

You can always swap the jelly crystals with juices and also other fruits too, like mixed berries or watermelon. Next time round, I will try my hands on some yogurt flavour, or perhaps chocolate flavour, just to see if it taste just as good too.

Although I might not know my future creation is gonna taste just as good as this, one thing I know for sure, my son will love to help me out with this project anytime anywhere.  🙂
