KOREAN HOTTEOK SWEET PANCAKE – SHINE KOREAN SUPERMARKET BEST BUY – CRISPY ADDICTIVE PANCAKE

By

Hi there

In Singapore, Korean sweet pancake is not very popular, as I very seldom sees it in restaurants or supermarkets. But one trip down to Shine Korean Supermarket, and I am over the moon! Because I finally found it here!

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake

Hotteok is a popular street food in Korea, and is made from wheat lour, milk, sugar, sugar and yeast, and contains a sweet mixture that has peanuts, brown sugar, sesame, honey and cinnamon, some comes in red bean paste too. ๐Ÿ™‚ My favourite has always been the cinnamon ones because it goes very well with the crispy coating. ๐Ÿ™‚

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake

My first encounter with Korean sweet pancake or Hotteok is back in my uni days when I was in NZ, our late dinners after part time work at night sometimes involve buying Hotteok and eat along the way back home, and especially winter time, this is such a sweet memory for me. So imagine how happy I was when I saw this at the Korean supermarket! Yeah!

What’s more, it cost only $3.50 per pack which comes in 5 pcs and to my suprise, they are having a Buy One Get One Free promotions, so only $1.75 per pack! OH MY GOD! bulk purchase time! ๐Ÿ™‚

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake Redbean

There are two flavours for this Korean Hotteok or Sweet Pancake, one is Red Bean Paste and another is Brown Sugar. ๐Ÿ™‚

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake Red Bean & Brown Sugar

These must be kept frozen because it will become quite sticky and is best cooked byย laying themย on the non stick fry pan while it is still frozen, I used Happycall Pan to cook it and it turn out very good too!

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake

I didn’t use any oil when I heat up the pancakes because the pancake itself has some oil coating on it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake

All I did is just lay them nicely on the pan on low heat and let it sizzles in it, occasional check to see if it is crispy enough. Stress free!

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake

Once one side looks like crisp and golden, I flipped itย to the other side and do the same. ๐Ÿ™‚

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake

It took me low fire about 5 mins to cook both sides, and you will know it is ready, when the hotteok is crispy on the outside but soft at the middle section.

They looks very good right!? It is really that good!

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake

I tried both flavours, and both taste heavenly good~ ~ ~

The red bean pan cakes actually taste like the Shanghai red bean pancakes that you eat in Chinese restaurant, but the only difference is the chewy skin, rather than the flaky skin you get in restaurant. The crispy skin is thin with a little chewiness.

I felt like eating some fried red bean mochi when I was eating it and it is so addictive! But nothing compares to my old time favourites, brown sugar flavour.

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake

The brown sugar hotteok with a hint of brown sugar, sesame, peanuts, it was not as sweet as the red bean and taste like the hotteok I ate in the past but with much lesser grease. You get double the satisfaction just taking a bite on these gorgeous pancakes. First chewy texture is immediately ushered with a delightful tantalizing sweet center. Yummm….

Korean Hotteok Sweet Pancake

Serve this after a meal as dessert, scoop in some vanilla ice cream to fushion it up. Or have it as snack, okay, I am guilty as charged, I have it for breakfast, because I couldn’t wait to try it. ๐Ÿ˜› One of my best buy from Shine Korean Supermarket indeed.

Oh hey, they also have many buy one get one free promotions on frozen items, don’t miss out to get some to keep at home, so that you can have a quick snack or quick meal anytime. ๐Ÿ™‚ I bought some Korean rice cakes too, looking forward to try out my recipe for Toppoki soon, stay tune! You will be so surprise by how easy it is to make this dish. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Cooking!
