MUST DO IN JAPAN – IZAKAYA HOPPING – JAPANESE PUBS AT ITS BEST

Hi there

If you are in Japan, there is one quintessential thing that you ought to do over there, and it is visiting the Japanese drinking places or pubs or Izakaya. They are little small pubs where you can definitely experience the local Japanese way .

Izakaya experience at Omoite Yokocho

This time round we went to Omoide Yokocho which loosely translated to Memory Lane, a small area near Shinjuku train station, where you can find lots of small Izakaya or Yakitori bars in there.

Be prepare to come out to leave this area with smokey flavour (talk about looking for some smokey delicacies haha) because many are open air bars and literally the grilling actions are all in front of you.

There are quite a few shops where they have English menu as well, because this place is getting populated with foreign visitors. As a first timer before venturing in other Izakaya, this is a good starting point to familiarize yourself what you can eat or to order.

Alcohol is practically a must haha.. get a draft beer which never goes wrong and start your little izakaya adventure. 🙂 My favourite will always be a combination of salad, appetizer, yakitori grilled meat, and stew.

If you are adventurous enough, there are also many inards stew or grilled dishes which will definitely entice you.

And of course one of my all time favourite is still grilled beef tongue, hee hee…

As this place close late, after enjoying your dinner there, you can still go to some drug store or medical store to shop for cosmestics and stuff at the surrounding area. too 🙂
