PECK BAKERY AT TAKASHIMAYA – UNQIUE / TASTY / AFFORDABLE – A SLICE OF MILANO

Hi there

One of my regular bakeries where I like to get my weekday breakfast bakeries is Peck at Takashimaya if I go to town during the weekends. 🙂

Peck is a Milan bakery which is under the Four Leave Bakery chain. They are well known in Italy for its wines, oils, balsamic vinegars, pasta,  which can be found in their shelving.

These Italian bread will make you come back for more after you have tried it, especially after they are lightly warmed or toasted in the oven too. 🙂

Various soft rolls, focaccia, calzone, tomato buns, lots of rustic loaves will greet you right at the entrance.

Peck Bakery

It is like a breeze of fresh air when you enter this open concept bakery right next to St Leaves at the Takashimaya basement because they sell items which you cannot find in other bakery, and at a very affordable price too.

Peck Bakery

I have tried most of their breads, and still love the ciabatta, foccacia and also Calzone the most. They have many interesting flavours like anchovy and eggs calzone, curry calzone (this probably is very localized concept but nevertheless taste really nice 🙂 )

You can’t find cakes there but they do have some lovely danish covered with chocolate and macademia nuts. It is one of the popular items at only $2. I don’t really think you can find any other danish at this price which comes with about 6 macadamia nuts on top. 🙂

There is also an open fridge where they store all the delicious looking sandwiches like egg mayo sandwich or smoked salmon sandwich.

Their chilled freshly made sandwich section boast a variety of colorful creations, and next to it are breadsticks and also pastry which is good to store as a snack at work. 🙂

I tried the egg mayo sandwich which is egg mayo in between this tangy tomato bun. The tanginess of the bun cuts the egg mayo richness, at $2 it is a good price, but if you do not like a little sour aftertaste from the tomato, then this might not be your thing.

Everytime I go there, I practically filled my bags with their bread, one thing I like their bread is also because their bread tasted soooo nice after you pop into the oven. Your kitchen will smell like a mini bakery with freshly baked bread infusing every corner of it.

If you like something that is not so crusty, do try their Calzone which has a very soft exterior, so far I have tried :

  • Egg anchovies fillings – suprisingly fragrant, I thought the anchovies can be overpowering but it wasn’t like that at all, a delightful suprise, subtle anchovies flavor and big on the creamy egg flavor.

Peck Bakery

  • Curry fillings – not the spicy kind, just like a curry puff with soft bun
  • Spinach and bacon cheese fillings – love this, one of my hot favourite, love how the spinach and bacon with the cheese binding them both

Peck Bakery

  • Sausage and capsicum fillings – my husband favourite, savory calzone

Next comes the must buy for my household, bacon and cheese ciabatta. Their walnut ciabatta is also very good too! Try to spread it with butter once you toasted it, heavenly.

Peck Bakery

It is so crispy with a soft fillings that is so irresistable, I love to drizzle with a little tabasco sauce just to give it that sharp tanginess. What’s not to love? So crispy on the outside and cream cheese with bacon on the inside. Yum..

Peck Bakery

Their bread pricing average around $2 which is really affordable, as the bread comes in a good size and needless to say the taste is just exquisite.

Peck Bakery

One thing to take note thou, after you toasted the bread, do eat it straight away, because it can get hard after cooling down and it will become chewy.
