POSSIBILY THE BEST MERINGUE SPONGE CAKE IN SINGAPORE – SMITTEN BY THE PATISSIER

Hi there

Most people know The Patissier is one of the leading cake shop in Singapore. Besides Flor Japanese cake shop, The Patissier is also another cake shop which I frequent quite often.

The Patissier

And now they have this new range of meringe sponge cake which are decorated with lots of yummy fresh fruits and beautiful mousse, something different from the usual cream cakes.

The Patissier First Hug Cake

Besides their Chocolate fudge cake, I also tried their Petite Patisserie cake which you can get from Meidiya Japanese Supermarket and has also decorated it with some miniature toys last year for my family birthday. It is so easy, as the cake is already done up nicely, all you need to do is whip out some of your imagination & creativity. 🙂

The Patissier Petite Patisserie Chocolate Dream

Well, come this year, I decided to try out their new creations. 🙂

I went to their Takashimya counter and check out their range of these gorgeous cakes. Everyone looks like a little messy piece of art haha.. the workers there were so nice and took the time to explain every cake and also let me sample it to find my perfect cake.

The Patissier at Takashimaya

They have a few variety in this series and each one of them is beautifully named too! 🙂

The Patissier range of cakes

  • First Hug – Their signature meringue sponge filled with an enticing burst of flavour from passionfruit mousse, fresh mangoes and strawberries.
  • Let’s Snuggle – Classic combination of sweet bananas & rich chocolate, enveloped within their signature meringue sponge, satisfying & comforting just like a cuddle
  • Flirty Hug – Sweet mangoes enlivened by the refreshing tang of calamansi set within their signature meringue sponge
  • Enchanted Hug – berry yogurt mousse with passionfruit curd, with diced strawberries & blueberries in their signature meringue sponge
  • Aloha Hug – Juicy bite of tangy pineapple, with refreshing zesty zing of calamansi wrapped in their signature meringue sponge
  • Oh Dah-ling Hug – Stylish pairing of coffee with refined nutty character of sesame coddled with their signature meringue sponge

The Patissier First Hug from Takashimaya

I chosed First Hug because the passionfruit mousse was so light with that subtle sweetness that is so hard to resist. Apparently this is one of the most popular one too. 🙂

Come to think about it, if you want to declare your love or even send a sweet sweet message to your loved one, this is something that will do the trick.

The Patissier Meringue Sponge

It doesn’t hurt that they packed this gorgeous cute looking cake in a really chic box, each box indicate the “expiry date” of the cake.

And inside the box, they placed an ice pack to make sure your cake will have a cool ride home.

The Patissier First Hug Ice Pack

I think overall, I prefer their meringue sponge with a little tart fruity flavour, the chocolate banana one was good, but it was a little too heavy and for me it didn’t go too well with the meringue sponge.

I personally think that meringue sponge should go with fruits and cream, as it will lighten up the whole palate.

As to the taste test, it surprised us just how different the texture is like compare to other cream cakes. Meringue is usually a little sugary crunch and meringue sponge was very different, it is just a like a hybrid between biscuits and sponge, but very light and do not taste dry at all, as the fruity cream binds every little bits together. It is really like a work of art.

The Patissier First Hug Cake Box

The fresh mangoes and strawberry not only looks pretty, it is bursting with flavours, and just added even more omph to the cake. I think for someone who prefers something less sweet, this is quite a good choice.

If it was not for a birthday, I might actually buy individual slices and have a meringue sponge cake party. 🙂

Every cake price at $40 Nett.
