Hi there
Last week was a full on kids cooking weekend. Many ideas went through my mind when I was sitting down and watching cartoon with my son in the morning. One of his favourite show is Madgardesca and the bunch of penguins in the movie is his favourite. 🙂
So that got me thinking, it will be nice to cook him something special, something nutritious and better still, something cute so he will be more willing to finish up his meal in no time.
Menu for the day include Japanese mixed rice balls and perhaps decorate it with a penguin theme. I can either cut out some seaweed to decorate it like a penguin look but I still have an unopened box of quail egg in my fridge so I decided to use these quail egg to make it into tiny penguins. 🙂
Ingredients to make these Quail Egg Penguins is super simple, just a pair of scissors
- Seaweed
- Quail egg
- Teeny tiny piece of cheese
- Cling wrap
Direction :
1) Boil the quail egg in salt water until cooked, usually takes around 3 mins
2) Cut a piece of seaweed into square of 4cm by 4cm
3) Fold into half and cut out 2 dome shape which will set as the head of the penguin.
4) Place the seaweed on the cling wrap and place the quail egg on it, roll the cling wrap up like below
5) Cut a small piece of cheese and unwrap the cling wrap, the seaweed should stay in position. Cut two tiny seaweed circle to form the eyes.
6) Place the cheese to form the peak, if you do not have cheese, you can use fruits, nuts or sesame too.
7) I brushed the cheek with a little ketchup to give it some blush, so doesn’t this look like a mini blushing penguin?:)
My son was so happy when he sees it, he actually didn’t want to eat it at first, and ask me with the eyes like “mama, is it really okay”, before he happily pop into his mouth, haha…
So there goes my Quail Egg Penguin bento ideas, let’s see what’s next this weekend. 🙂
