Hi there
During your weekly grocery shopping in the supermarket, do you sometimes have this light bulb moments which just propel you to cook up something special?
I just had one over the weekend 🙂 and it was all thanks to my son. I wanted to do our weekend artwork with my son and thought of getting some pasta but then while passing by the chiller section, I saw this pack of cute looking mantou.
And especially it is under the Sakura brand, I thought I will try it out and try to make Mantou Sandwich for my son’s sunday morning scrumptious breakfast.
If you have seen my other post about the sushi party using the Bandai sushi maker or the popiah party, you will kind of know that my son likes to be very hands on with making food as it is both fun for him and as a mum, I feel it is very good for his motor skills.
And of course kids love cute stuff, and with all these little plastic toothpicks for kids bento, he is definitely more than happy to “play” with his food. 🙂
The theme of my Sunday breakfast is going to be something colorful and also wanting to introduce something new to his palate, so I kind of use this as a play thing to entice him to eat. I wanted to let him try out cucumber so whats better way than to let him stack his own mantou with colorful ingredients and crunchy cucumber slices. 🙂
Ingredients needed (just like other of my recipes, feel free to swap any ingredients to your likenings :))
- Sakura mantou x 1 pack of 12 pcs
- Egg x 1
- Ham x 3 slices
- Hot dogs x 2 pcs
- Cucumber x 1/2 pc
- Cod fillet fingers x 3pcs
- Condiments (ketchup / garlic chills (for the adults) / mayo)
Directions :
- Steam the mantou with happycall pan / rice cooker / microwave until piping hot, take it out right before you use it so that it won’t dry out or harden
- Pan fry ham, sausages, egg and cut into bite size
- Slice cucumber into bite size too
- Oven bake the cod fish fingers
- Cut the mantou in half and let you kids have all the fun they want to make these little mantou sandwich. 🙂
- Final touch up, just a cute little plastic toothpick and all is done!
These colorful mantou sandwich can be served in kids party or just your weekend snack too.
Other ingredients which I think can be used and if you have the time is mini potato rosti, cheese, roast chicken slices too. Try Korean theme or Japanese theme. This does not have to be just a breakfast, it just works as well as lunch or tea break. 🙂
