TSUKIJI WET MARKET – ONE OF MY MOST FAVORITE PLACE ON EARTH HANDS DOWN

Hi there

By now you should pretty much know I am a supermarket fanatic and I just lovvveeeee supermarkets and wet markets, and every country I go, if time permits, I will make my way to there. And if I am in Japan, my must go destination always include Tsukiji wet market. πŸ™‚

Tsukiji must do

I always start off with some really good sushi there, I know, this sushi looks so pretty right!!?? Β After sushi at the Tsukiji inner market, I will move on to the outer market where all the real actions for me start. πŸ™‚

Tsukiji must do

Take note of one thing, you need to take the train to the Tsukijishijo station and not Tsukiji station if you want to go to the wet market, it is just only a short 5 mins walk from there.

What I love about Tsukiji market is that I can see so many colorful and delicious food. Instant pick me up moments.

Tsukiji must do

Colorful pickles using carrots, radish, wasabi, gobo, pumpkins, and many many many more.

Tsukiji must do

Dried stuff like dried puffer fish fins, seaweeds, dried seafood

Seafood of course, everytime I go I wish I can stay there for a whole month so that I can cook every day in the rented apartment.

Even desserts are sold in the wet market, mango pudding anyone??

There are also lots of stuff to buy from there, I love to buy kitchen tools there, and they also have many cool cheap T-shirts with japanese fonts prints, and also slippers. If you are lucky you can also try out their wasabi ice cream too.

However one thing that I just bring myself to try is deep fried whale meat. I saw others trying it, but the comments I usually get is it has a very strong gamey flavor, well its just a personal thing, but I really can’t bring myself to do it.

You can also find many interesting vegetables there too. These are the fresh wasabi, doesn’t come cheap, about SGD10 but definitely much much cheaper than buying it in Singapore. Freshly grated wasabi is like the king of flavors, even grating it is so pungent.

Now to the snack part.

Sushi is a must – checked. πŸ™‚

Freshly shucked oyster is a must too – checked. πŸ™‚

Tsukiji must do

Freshly fried mega huge fish cake that comes in all sort of flavors – checked πŸ™‚

stewed scallop tsukudani

Tsukudani which are stewed seafood – checked πŸ™‚

Tsukiji must do

Freshly cooked tamagoyaki which is japanese omelette with various flavours and condiments like radish sauce, seaweed, sweet flavour or mustard. All 100yen each. – checked checked checked (because I usually doesn’t stop just one! haha)

Tsukiji must do

And I guess I am not the only one in the family like this, even my son love it.

Yes, I love Japan, and I love Tsukiji, my dream of staying in Japan for a whole month so that I can cook every day when I was there, yeah a dream but a dream that I hope to attain one day, may be retirement.. haha..

    1. Hi Carol
Best time to go to the market is in the early morning, because usually the good sushi shops will form queue from 6am. But as I was with my kid, I ended up around 9am and the queue will be much longer, but still worth a try if you do not mind the queuing. (mostly an hour or so)
As for the other parts of the market, good to go before noon as well, because you can see most products there. Just roam around, there are many jems there.
I got here the calendar you can check out before you plan your itinerary. (Skip the red box / yellow box / red fonts dates, other than that you are safe ^^) Its only available in the Jp site.
p.s. I heard that they are going to demolish the place and make way for the Olympics 2020, so they will be moving off, good to go before that. πŸ™‚
      Cheers!
