I have been reading quite a bit on newspaper about the Two Blur Guys at Orchid Hotel. So while going for my seminar at Tanjong Pagar, I made it a point to stop by and check it out.
It is just located at Orchid Hotel and you just need to walk to the back of the hotel which is just along the street where there are tonnes of bridal stores around. Opened by two zero F&B knowledge chap with financial background, they jumped into the F&B bandwagon with a chef. And that’s suppose how they get their name, interesting yet brutally truthful at the same time. 🙂
Believe it or not, the place is quite plain looking that I actually passed by without knowing it. Dark interior and probably can sit about 10 people in there. Looks like one of those cafes you can find in overseas.
Checked out their menu which mainly has burgers, cookies, pastries and cakes.
Heard their pull pork burgers is good but decided not to have a heavy meal before the seminar so I picked up couple of cakes which I have not tried for ages and so surprise to see it, Lamington cakes!!
This is one of my favourite cakes when I was still in Auckland, practically having it with my hot chocolate chatting with my classmates on a weekly bases.. Ah.. Good old times, and the best way to revive the good old times I reckon is food! 🙂
Back to the cakes, as I have a super early morning the next day to go work, so these might just be the right thing to pamper myself with a quiet morning, no harm to also try out their a bit strange looking apple crumble pie ($4.20) . Not very conventional as all the ingredients are chopped up and look like a little apple pie toy rather than an edible pie.
You can see the photos are all quite dark because it is really early in the morning! Nice time to catch up some “Me-Time” before the little one wakes up and be a little self indulgent huh? 😀
Anyway back to the lamington cakes ($2.50) , good lamington has a very soft sponge and a very thin layer of jam or jelly and a thin coating of dessicated coconuts flakes. Here the latter two were done perfectly, pity the sponge, it was a tad dry.
As for the apple crumble pie, it has the apple crunch and raisin sweetness. The pie has just the right pastry thickness but I still prefer the conventional ones where it has more liberal potions of apple slices and crunchier tops.
Oh by the way when I picked up their namecard while pay for the cakes, I discovered there is pen markings n correction. They spelled Orchard hotel instead of Orchid hotel, and you wonder why they name the shop Two blur guys haha…
Will I go back, hmm.. judging by the ambience, May be if my husband want to try some new burgers… I guess.
