Hi there
I chanced upon this at Meidiya supermarket, and instantly remind of the vegetarian sashimi I had in a vegetarian restaurant. 🙂
This is actually make on Konnyaku, yup similar to those konnyaku jelly, however this one is not a dessert, but rather an appetizer. This pack comes with a pack of seaweed shiso flavour and also a pack of miso sauce for dipping. I guess I don’t need to tell you how heathier
Each pack cost around $3 and I was so tempted to try it out. 🙂
On the packaging it recommended a few ways of savouring this, you can either have it sashimi style, mixed it in salad, or just mix it some seafood like clams with the dipping sauce to make an appetizer.
And for me, first timer, I will try out the good old sashimi style. 🙂
Each pack comes in individual packaging for the konnyaku and the sauce. And it is very convenient to prepare, just drain out the water, and Viola, vegetarian sashimi on the go.
First bite of it, it is full of seaweed flavour, texture wise, it is a little crunchy but just eating it alone, it is probably not the tastiest thing you ever tried, because as like konnyaku, it still will have this slight plasticky flavour, however, all is good with the dipping sauce.
The sauce which is like a combination of mustard and miso, is savouring and very fragrant! My family all agrees the flavour improve instantly with this dipping sauce, and the crunchy texture goes perfectly. One thing to note is that this dish need to be serve really cold, so it is good to serve it on ice. 🙂
I think this is a good buy if you are attending or even preparing vegetarian dish for your vegetarian friends, so simple yet tasty and interesting.
Happy Cooking! (actually barely cooked, haha..)
