Hi there

The first time I heard about Robert Timms is when I heard they sell lamington cakes which is not very popular in Singapore.

Then I heard about the mussels, the kangaroo meat, the crocodile meat haha.. All these just remind me so much about Aussie and Kiwi food. So I made it a point to check it out.

And finally couple weeks back I was able to dine there during lunch and was still in time in their 1 for 1 GSS promotion. 🙂

Glancing through the menu, it consist of lots of Aussie comfort good and has a good mix of western fare that should satisfy most taste buds. They also have a All Day Breakfast menu and also a Steak menu.

Their prices although is not hi ends ones but it also does not come cheap, definitely more expensive than swensens or olio cafe. However their food looks relatively looks much more interesting and there are quite a few which I would like to try it out. You can find their menu listing at the bottom of this post. 🙂

We decided to go with their signature dishes and opted for kangaroo stout stew and also paper bag snapper.

I have tried crocodile pizza, kangaroo pizza back in NZ and I remembered I didn’t like it that much. I remembered one tasted like very tough chicken and the other oh well just plain gamey. But as this is stewed in stout beer, I will give it a try and see if it will make a difference.

We were told that the paper bag snapper will takes 20 mins to cook and we were ok with it as this reassures me it is not something out from the microwave oven.

Tick tok tick tok and our paper bag snapper was served first. At $26.50, it sure does not come cheap as it is one piece of snapper fillet with some vegetables cooked in thyme.

It was served piping hot and we squeeze couple wedges of lemon over the piping steamy paper bag. I like the broth that has already infused with the olives and vegetables.

The snapper was ok for me as I find it taste a little fishy which was a little pity. After eating this, it does make me want to cook up some paper bag food too 🙂 (stay tune, I did immediately over the weekend :D)

Next up is Stout Braised Kangaroo Loin, the reason I am trying it for the second time is I do have that belief this might taste better than the first time I have it.

This stew ($26.90) comes with generous chunks of kangaroo meat soaked in the beer stout stew gravy. First thing first, it still taste very gamey to me, which means the first time I tried with pizza is true that this meat no matter how you cook will still have this games taste. It kind of taste like beef but it is not as tender and it is just too chunky which at times taste rather dry and you will end up having very meaty mouthful and the taste just diminish during the chewing .

Second the pastry that goes with the stew tasted a little stale not flaky enough so the whole dish taste a little too heavy for me. To be honest the part that I enjoyed the most is the Zucchini and carrots..

So overall this meal will perhaps cost us $60 bucks but because is 1 for 1, we paid $30 instead, for $30 this still sounds reasonable but I might have a hard time forking out $60, perhaps the idea is there, but the execution is still not there yet.

I will still come back to try out their mussels, lamington cakes and perhaps the egg drop fettuccine but as for crocodile and kangaroo, I think two times will be the max I will try it out and I am glad that I have hit my quota. 🙂

ALL DAY BREAKFAST

WRAPS * served with choice of french fries or criss cut fries and garden green

SANDWICHES

LITE BITES

SALAD & SOUP

MAIN

STEAK MENU

PASTAS

TEA $7.50

ICED TEA

SMOOTHIE $7.50

SODA $6

OTHERS

RESTAURANT REVIEWS : ROBERT TIMMS AT ORCHARD SHOPPING CENTER REVIEWS

Locations : Orchard Shopping Centre 321 Orchard Road, #01-01/02, Singapore 238866

Tel: 6733 0609

Happy Dining!

For latest news on restaurants, supermarkets, food fairs, or simply check out some of my simple recipe ideas & reviews, please visit us at singaporesupermarketrecipes.com or subscribe to our mailing list for more details.

Cheers,

Dawn

Hi there The first time I heard about Robert Timms is when I heard they sell lamington cakes which is not very popular in Singapore.
