Hi there

Do you see these Hokkaido cakes very often lately?

My first encounter of Hokkaido Cakes was at the takashimaya food fiesta 2012 and some bakery shop was selling them like hot cakes, I didn’t get it as I thought it will be overtly creamy and I am not a huge fan of it.

Her aim is probably to try to convince me that is good and that is how I score this box of lovely Hokkaido cakes, (big thank you!!).

She got it from raffles place outlet and there was already a very long queue by the time she was there after work, there were three flavours, original / hazelnut / durian.

Each cup dressed in these adorable polka dots pink cup, looks a bit like a hybrid of cream puff and cakes.

Each puffs around half the size of your palm, cost $2.50 each and they have promotions of getting 6 for $12 instead of $15.

Too bad durian is out as I think it will taste really good with it, the icy cold durian, but provided it has that irresistible fragrance or pungent aroma.

So there you go, original and hazelnut. 🙂

Original

Hazelnut

Do I like it yes, will I crave for it big time, hmm.. well no, but probably just because I am not a big creamy cakes fans. However if you like creamy cakes and this will probably swoon you over like the rest of their fans. 🙂

I also tried Polar version of Hokkaido Cakes as well.

They have differnt flavours, which is Strawberry. The strawberry does taste okay, sweet berry flavors, but it is still not as light as the Bakery Cuisine I have tried, and the sponge also is a little dense to me too.

You can probably see the difference in the texture between them.

It is also cheaper than the Bakery Cuisine too. $12 for 6 pcs, well not bad but I still prefer the Bakery Cuisine for its lightness.

PRODUCT REVIEWS : HOKKAIDO CAKES FROM BAKERY CUISINE & POLAR CAKES

Bakery Cuisine Locations :

Bakery Cuisine Hotline : 64896062 (Office Hour Only)

For latest news on restaurants, supermarkets, food fairs, or simply check out some of my simple recipe ideas & reviews, please visit us at singaporesupermarketrecipes.com or subscribe to our mailing list for more details.

Cheers,

Dawn

Hi there Do you see these Hokkaido cakes very often lately?
But someone told me that she has tried these and have been raving ever since, her colleagues even bought it 3 times in a week! Wow thought about sugar rush in the office 🙂

The cakes itself is about 40-50% while the rest is well.. Cream. I do not like too creamy cakes but I must say although this is very creamy, they are surprisingly light with a very subtle sweetness, like a peck on the cheek.

The top part of the cakes is with this slightly sweet crumb which give a subtle contrast to the lightness of the cream and cakes. I like it but also not something that I will crave or shout about.

The difference between the original and hazelnut is the fillings and toppings on the cakes. The hazelnut cream added more depth to the flavour, it has this sweet nutty flavour which make you forget you are eating cream, the hazelnut bits also give it a better balance of texture so it won’t taste so monotonous throughout. I think this fare better than original.
