Hi there

It has been rainy for a while and I have this cravings for either fish soup noodles or just some really piping hot soup.

So when deciding to bring my family out for dinner, I was having this in mind and that brought us to Honguo 红锅 which literally means Red Pot.

You probably can guess why once you sit in as nearly all tables there will be people ordering this huge giant red bowl of nooodles. 🙂

Honguo serves dishes that is from Yunnan china and they include the famous guojiao noodles which literally translate to pass through the bridge.

Every outlet has this story on the wall which state the story behind which is about this dutiful wife who discovered the beauty of the chicken stock she had made and how they can be kept warm due to the layer of chicken oil on the soup.

And so for a hearty chicken broth and noodles, this is the place to go, doesn’t hurt that it does not put hole in your wallet, at affordable prices to rid out my soup craving, awesome. 🙂

Once seated, you will get to self service and tick the order you want on the order sheet.

I pay for a decent dinner for 3 with only less than $30 in a restaurant setting, even comes with free drinks if you go for the sets too.

For appetizer we ordered cucumber with garlic and also spicy boiled shanghai dumplings.

Garlic cucumber looks plain but surprisingly flavorful even though I still prefer the Ding Tai Fung version and the dumplings was a bit too meaty for me, I wish there are more vegetables in it. 🙂

We ordered their fried rice set which comes in bamboo containers, every rice grain is nicely coated with eggs and the chicken cutlet was flavorful but I still prefer the Ding Tai Fung version as it is quite greasy.

My husband decided to challenge himself and ordered a Hot & Spicy Yunan noodle with dumpling and one slurp of the soup sent me flying for SOS water therapy. It sure live up to its name, actually I kind of taste a bit of Mala peppery kick too.

And to me the star of the meal. The huang Yuan Mi Xian which contains 15 different ingredients. As a matter of fact, I have always order the 15 flavours because it only cost a $1 more compared to the regular ones. It contains meat like ham, fried fish, and prawns, fish slices, quail egg and various kinds of vegetables too.

They encourage you to add egg & meat dishes to the hot soup first, vegetable dish next, last add in the vermicelli, so as to fully leverage on the piping hot broth.

It omes with a big red or rather giant bowl of chicken soup and various toppings including the noodles do you can have your fun throwing in what ever you fancy.

For me although the soup flavour is a not as flavourful on its own but somehow it makes it very easy to polish it off because it is always piping hot and the various ingredients made it fun to slurp, and you can find different bits of interesting ingredients in every bite. There is also this slight sweetness probably from the chicken bones, pair it with the greens in it, hit the right spot in no time. 🙂

NOODLES

RICE

Lotus Black Pepper Beef Fried Rice – $8.80

Lotus Chicken Chop Fried Rice – $8.80

Lotus XO Seafood Fried Rice $8.80

Lotus Sausage & Chicken Fried Rice – $8.80

NOODLES

HOT POT

SMALL BITES

HOT DRINKS

COLD DRINKS

DESSERT

RESTAURANT REVIEWS : HONGUO AT SERANGOON NEX

Locations : 23 Serangoon Central, #B1-75 NEX Mall

Opening Hours: 11am – 9.30pm Daily

Tel : 6634 4675

For latest news on restaurants, supermarkets, food fairs, or simply check out some of my simple recipe ideas & reviews, please visit us at singaporesupermarketrecipes.com or subscribe to our mailing list for more details.

Cheers,

Dawn

Hi there It has been rainy for a while and I have this cravings for either fish soup noodles or just some really piping hot soup.
