I like to get these packets of powder or pre mix from Daiso as it is easy to use, definitely whole lot of fun and also oh so affordable. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

My son can’t agree more and when I propose to him if he want to try this out, he instantly told me he want to make apple pie with it \ud83d\ude42 I told him this is not for apple pie and after so coaxing, I finally bargained with him to add pear in this which is like a “distant relative” to apple pie but close enough to be in the family, haha…<\/p>\n

This steam cake mix comes in two flavours, plain or brown sugar. The brown sugar ones is just like the chinese brown huat kueh that you see, but I choosed the white plain ones as it look so fluffy on the packaging. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

I also used some Japanese large sweet red bean, you can use any kind of red bean but bear in mind, it is always good that you pre steam it before putting it into the cake mix, because just 10 mins is pretty hard to steam it to a soft consistency unless it is very small, these I used, I even soaked it over night, as every one of them is about the size of a 5 cent coin. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

So Daiso steam cake mix, here we go~!<\/p>\n

Ingredients :<\/p>\n

\n
• Daiso steam cake\u00a0pre mix x 1 pac<\/li>\n
• Pear x 1, cut\u00a0into cubes (without skin)<\/li>\n
• Red bean – soak over night and steam until it is soft, varies depends on pots, you can even steam in your rice cooker too. Set it at 15 mins.<\/li>\n
• Tap water x 140ml<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  Sometimes I do wonder if my son actually loves eating or actually loves all those mixing, sprinkling\u00a0and scooping, but as long as he is happy, I have no qualms about it, and we always have a blast doing this.<\/p>\n

  Directions :<\/p>\n

  1) Just pour the pre mix into a bowl, and pour in the waterand mix, Viola, that’s it~!<\/p>\n

  2) Give it a good stir until all ingredients combined, and add the red beans and pear cubes in it.<\/p>\n

  3) Scoop into individual paper cups, about 70% definitely not until the brim.<\/p>\n

  I\u00a0use a regular muffin tray and just put on top of a wok haha.. and it actually works, how cool is that \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

  <\/a><\/p>\n

  Steam it under high fire for 10 – 15 mins<\/p>\n

  <\/a><\/p>\n

  I peeped a couple of times without lifting up the cover high to check if the batter rises, okay just peep because you do not want the heat to suffer that sudden drop in temperature, that just literally means your steam cake will just drop there and will\u00a0never rise.<\/p>\n

  One of the reason that I choosed the pear because I used to steam pear for my son when he was about one year old, as it is sweeter with all the natural juice and easy to chew, and I remembered I tried a piece and it tasted fabulous, so I know this will enhance the flavour of this plain steam cake.<\/p>\n

  <\/a><\/p>\n

  With 15 mins, it should do the work, the cake will rise perfectly with a soft yet firm texture.<\/p>\n

  <\/a><\/p>\n

  I like the pear taste in the cake as the cake mix is basically really – tasteless, but that does not mean you can’t inject a little fun in it, add chocolate chips or berries and also even bananas, it is definitely a much healthier version and all it takes is just a little creativity to perk up this white canvas of fluffy steam cake. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
