When I cook this, I usually just pair it with Japanese pickle ginger, just like those you can find in Yoshinoya, they are available in some supermarkets at the japanese section which is at the chiller.<\/p>\n

Ingredients wise, all you need is (feed 4 pax)\u00a0:<\/p>\n

\n
• Shabu Shabu Beef x 2 pack (I prefer shabu shabu over sukiyaki cuts as it is thinner and will be more tender after it is cooked)<\/li>\n
• Onion x 1 large, thinly sliced<\/li>\n
• Garlic x 3 cloves, crushed (optional)<\/li>\n
• Mirin japanese cooking wine x 2 tablespoon<\/li>\n
• Soba Sauce x 5 tablespoon<\/li>\n
• Sugar\u00a0x 3 teaspoon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  Of course you can always buy the instant beef bowl sauce mixture or just add soya sauce, but I find soya sauce is way too salty for this dish, however soba sauce give it a perfect balance of the beef broth and\u00a0it does not make you feel you have over load in the soya sauce.<\/p>\n

  I bought this from Daiso and it is so versatile without breaking the bank, just $2, compared to other brands which will easily set you back $5 each bottle.<\/p>\n

  Directions :<\/p>\n

  1. Use a scissors to cut up the beef into bite size, yup, use the scissors, I find it so much more convenient and because it is already thinly sliced, it can be cut through really easily and also the irregular chunks coming out of it make the dish even more appealing then nicely perfectly sliced. \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n
  2. Pour a little oil in a non stick pot<\/li>\n
  3. Sauteed the garlic and onion slices for 30 secs and pour in the beef<\/li>\n
  4. Cooked it under medium heat for 1 min and pour in the soba sauce and close the pot, turn to low fire<\/li>\n
  5. After 5 mins, with occasional stir, you can proceed with the mirin and sugar<\/li>\n
  6. Let it stew for a good 15 mins, also stirring it occasionally.<\/li>\n
  7. You will know it is done, when the beef is tender, all cooked, and the onions slices looks like they have soaked up all the broth and falling apart<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     I pair it with Japanese rice, as the chewiness of the rice goes best with the stewed beef.<\/p>\n

     <\/a><\/p>\n

     For a quick meal, just sprinkle with some japanese red pickles.<\/p>\n

     <\/a><\/p>\n

     Or you can also make a simple miso soup with just tofu and kelp or seaweed.<\/p>\n

     <\/a><\/p>\n

     This dish taste wonderful and all it takes is just one pot and less than 30 mins of your time to feed a whole family.<\/p>\n
