Hi there

I always walk pass this Japanese sweet shop at Takashimaya, however as I find their pricing is a bit steep, I have yet to try it out. The last time I have tried this was back in Japan, and I find it resemble Kueh Lapis 🙂

Japanese love this Baumkuchen which is a kind of traditional German cake, behind this brand actually lies a very sad story and the shape of it is quite auspicious to them too, so it is very popular to buy as gift in Japan.

These Baumkuchen is make of quality wheat flour, sugar, egg and butter, and baker painstakingly have to layer it on layer by layer on a baking rod. Yes, I did stand there for a good few mins just to check it out. 🙂

I suppose that is also why this cost quite a bit. So there I was, got this gift from a Japanese during mooncake festival, and comes in chocolate flavours. Design of it is impeccable as usual, and this time round comes with a really cute rabbit cookie too! 🙂

You can see how each layers or rather circles form on the cake are so consistent, even they are all handmade. Taste wise, I find it is very plain, although the chocolate surrounding it does gives it a bit more depth. I prefer to serve it cold, as it will have a denser consistency.

As to if I will buy it for myself one day, for like $10 for a small one, I might still need to ponder a bit on it. But for now, I will just enjoy my Japanese Kueh Lapis with my family. 🙂

Juchheim Buamkuchen Takashimaya

PRODUCT REVIEWS : JUCHHEIM BAUMKUCHEN GERMAN CAKES AT TAKASHIMAYA

Locations : Takashimaya Basement B2- 205-3-1

Happy Snacking!

For latest news on restaurants, supermarkets, food fairs, or simply check out some of my simple recipe ideas & reviews, please visit us at singaporesupermarketrecipes.com or subscribe to our mailing list for more details.

Cheers,

Dawn

Hi there I always walk pass this Japanese sweet shop at Takashimaya, however as I find their pricing is a bit steep, I have yet to try it out.
