I made it a point in my last trip to visit a few of the “old shops” or rather restaurants that has been around for ages, and I do managed to clock in a few which included this old school Japanese western restaurant called Rengatei located at Ginza. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

This shop has been around for 110 years (talk about old shops!), and is the oldest western restaurant.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

They are famous for their deep fried pork chop or tonkatsu and also Japanese omelette rice which is ketchup fried rice wrapped in omelette.<\/p>\n

Since there were 3 of us and feel meaty, we decided to order one pork chop, one chicken chop and also one pork chop sandwich.<\/p>\n

The deep fried pork chop does not come with rice, but with a bunch of shredded cabbages, just like what you get in Singapore like Tonkichi.<\/p>\n

Taste wise I think the pork chop was nicely done, but their tonkatsu demi glace sauce was the runny kind, so I could not get that really satisfying taste when I sink my teeth into it. Of course its best pal, yellow mustard is always available if you do want some kick.<\/p>\n

Chicken katsu or deep fried chicken cutlet fared better, I think it also boils down to the sauce, it is richer and thicker but also it taste a tad like ketchup in it too.<\/p>\n

But my favorite is still the katsu sando which is deep fried pork cutlet sandwich, serve with lots of pickles and some sauteed onions. Love the bread which is pillowy and give a really nice contrast to the crispy pork chop. Also it is all cut into bite size, so it is easy to eat and good to share around. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

If you are look for a cheap lunch in Ginza, do try out this place. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
