As my previous post mentioned, I was at 313@ Somerset checking out Coco Ichibanya, but decided to take a rain check and go for something else instead. And here we are.. at Ramen Play instead.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As my husband is very picky about his ramen,\u00a0and Ramen Play is one of the ramen place where my husband sealed a stamp of approval to, we decided to check out their new menu.<\/p>\n
If you have read other of my\u00a0posting on Ramen Play, they currently do have\u00a0several promotions like summer menu promotions, tea time promotions etc..<\/p>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n But for today, what we see is hot stone rice promos which they strongly recommended. Actually it was not much of a promo, but rather new dishes that they want us to try.<\/p>\n Service was prompt and you get to mark your orders on the order sheet, but during our visits, the staff did proactively come to tell us they can take the order from us instead, which is quite nice of them to do so.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n After flipping through the menu, I find that they have upgraded most of their menu, especially their salad and appetizer section, which showcase many appetizing dishes.<\/p>\n They differentiate themselves from other ramen store such that they have jars of condiment at the table for you to add into your ramen, to concoct your own favourite version. They have chili paste, garlic bits & also marinated chives.<\/p>\n The marinated chives, especially reminded me of a famous ramen store in Osaka main street where they place big jars or kim chi chives for customers to add on, super yummilious if it is during winter times.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n During this visit, we ordered :<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n The Tonroniku Double Soup Ramen is flavourful, noodles was al dente, springy and cooked just right, the cha shu that goes with it, is very\u00a0tender & meaty, overall the ramen is above average compared to some Japanese Ramen places.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n The Butariki Ishinbabe, which is Pork belly with rice in hot stone, is mediocre, but at least they have the thought that in case diners burn their hand from the hot stone, they have a wooden casing wrapped around the hot stone, so for me, it is good, as my son always have a pair of wandering hands, so I can have my meal peace & quiet without worrying that he might want to touch my very piping hot stone bowl.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Back to the food. There are thinly sliced pork belly placed on Japanese rice, with a raw egg on top, so the drill is that you will pour over the soya sauce and then mix the eggs and the rice together, something like the Korean hot stone rice. One thing which I think is good, was the Japanese rice they serve, it is above average compared to many other Japanese restaurant. Chewy & moist.<\/p>\n After mixing the rice, the eggs will be cooked so you will get bits of cooked eggs covered nicely on the rice. But I feel at the price I paid, I will expect a bit more. It is served with a miso soup but without any pickles. The miso soup is also too salty to my likings, and also too thick, so definitely does not goes well\u00a0with main course that is salty as well.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n The Kid’s Ramen Set was something I thought will try it out as I know my husband will want to put some spicy chives in his noodles. So my son might not get his share :), so I ordered this ramen set for him.\u00a0<\/p>\n It is served with one ramen which has finely chopped cha shu, corn kernels, two slices of hard boiled eggs + 1 orange juice + french fries & ketchup. My son of course love the french fries, but he also love the ramen, rolling up mouthful of ramen & stuffing himself. They also make sure the egg is hard boiled, so it is suitable for kids, a nice touch.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Next come the gyoza, the gyoza is bigger in size compared to those served in other restaurant, the look of it looks quite chunky so my first impression was it might not taste as good as those smaller ones. But I was so wrong! It tasted excellent, super juice inside and nicely fried on the bottom, dip into the chilli oil with soya sauce & it tasted great!<\/p>\n\n
