One of my favourite part during Chinese New Year is tossing Yu Sheng or Lo Hei. Every year without fail my family will definitely prepare food for the reunion dinner and the Yu sheng is a main stay during this festive feast. I truly have a soft spot in it and I even read last year that even people and restaurant in Hong Kong are catching up with this idea and is doing the same way like us in Singapore.<\/p>\n

I personally think this tradition of tossing yu sheng\u00a0is a must at every Chinese New Year, it is a way if getting together everyone to bring in the good festive spirits, and of course the sweetness, tanginess and savouriness of each and every ingredient always makes me come back for more!<\/p>\n

However in the past years, I only know that we need to say auspicious wishes while tossing but after years in Singapore I have yet to learn the correct way of doing it so this year I am going to redeem myself and do it right, hopefully my son can learn from me correctly too \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

So I did some research on tossing Yu sheng and want to share with you just how and what to say when you Toss Yu sheng or Lo Hei during Chinese New Year.<\/p>\n

The Yu Sheng which you get from restaurants or eateries usually are placed nicely on the take away container, all you need to do is to sprinkle and drizzle in the condiments, so now is the steps to getting it right. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Step 1 <\/strong>– Say “Gong Xi Fa Cai” (\u606d\u559c\u53d1\u8d22) & “Wan Shi Ru Yi” (\u4e07\u4e8b\u5982\u610f) when you place shredded carrots & radish on the plate or place the yu sheng on the table<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 2 <\/strong>– Say “Da Ji Da Li” (\u5927\u5409\u5927\u5229) & “Ku Jin Jin Lai”(\u82e6\u5c3d\u7518\u6765) when you squeeze in lime or lemon over the fish yu sheng<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 3 <\/strong>– Say “Nian Nian You Yu” (\u5e74\u5e74\u6709\u4f59) when you place the fish yu sheng on the shredded carrots & radish.<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 4 –<\/strong> Say “Hong Yun Dang Tou” (\u9e3f\u8fd0\u5f53\u5934) when you sprinkle the red pickled ginger slices<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 5 <\/strong>– Say “Jin Sha Man Tang” (\u91d1\u6c99\u6ee1\u5802) when you sprinkle in the chopped peanuts & toasted sesame seeds<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 5 <\/strong>– Say “zhao cai jin bao” (\u62db\u8d22\u8fdb\u5b9d) when you sprinkle pepper all over the dish<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 6 <\/strong>– Say “Wu Fu Lin Men” (\u4e94\u798f\u4e34\u95e8) when you sprinkle the cinnamon powder & five spice powder<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 7 <\/strong>– Say “Fu Yun Nian Nian” (\u5bcc\u8fd0\u5e74\u5e74) & “Rong Hua Fu Gui” (\u8363\u534e\u5bcc\u8d35) when you drizzle in the peanut oil<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 8 –<\/strong> Say “Tian Tian Mi Mi” (\u751c\u751c\u871c\u871c) when you drizzle in the plum sauce or kumquat paste or sprinkle in some pickled melon<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 9 –<\/strong> Say “Man Di Huang Jin” (\u6ee1\u5730\u9ec4\u91d1) when you toss in the Pok Chui fried crackers<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 10 <\/strong>– Say “Bu Bu Gao Sheng” (\u6b65\u6b65\u9ad8\u5347),”Feng Sheng Shui Qi” (\u98ce\u751f\u6c34\u8d77), “Zheng Ti Jian Kang” (\u8eab\u4f53\u5065\u5eb7) while you toss your Chinese New Year Yu Sheng!<\/em><\/p>\n

Biggest dose of auspiciousness is definitely to be in good spirits while you toss it to draw in all the good lucks.<\/p>\n
