Hi there

My husband has always wanted to try Shin Yeh Restaurant located at Liang Court for the longest time, and recently I have happily snapped up another set of Groupon vouchers to dine there and see if it is as good as it looks. 🙂

"Shin

Shin Yeh is under the Tung Lok Restaurant Group, and you know with Tung Lok, the quality usually doesn’t go that far off plus having the vouchers does gave me a push to check it out. 🙂

"Shin

The restaurant can sit 300 pax and have 8 private rooms, it offers a casual modern oriental setting with cozy bamboo garden setting, with tranquility ambience. It all dated way back in 1977 at the back of a Taipei’s alley and after years, it has developed into a household name.

"shin

Shin Yeh is under the Tung Lok Restaurant Group, and you know with Tung Lok, the quality usually doesn’t go that far off, well, sadly so is the price. 🙂 So having the vouchers does gave me a push to check it out. 🙂

Chinese Tea : $1.50++/pax & Coke : $3++

"Shin

We started off some really nice bitter gourd pickles ($2++) as appetizer, it reminded of the old times when my grandma will use to make home made pickles with preserved vegetables, it has this well balance of sweetness, saltiness and bitterness, it is definitely something that will whet your appetite.

"Shin

Braised minced pork with egg and steamed rice ($4.80++) comes in one person portion, although it is a small portion but it does pack a punch. One taste of it and my son kept asking for more. The egg has a chewy texture to it, which is good, as I tried some before and those are quite unpleasant, strangely hard, but not here. The sliced pickles also tone down any greasiness of the minced pork too 🙂

"Shin

Next is Beef Sliced with Ginger & Spring Onions ($22++), this dish blew me away, I was still a little skeptical when my husband asked me to order this for him, and when it was served, these chunky thick slices prompted me thinking, these are probably very tough to bite. But one step, and boy was I wrong or what, they are so tender and juicy that I thought I was eating wagyu.

Those spring onions and ginger juices infused into the beef and this goes so so well with white rice.

"Shin

Poached Savory Duck in Boullion ($16++), which served with fresh ginger slices and also preserved vegetables slices with a sweet syrupy dipping sauce was something which I already pre planned to order.

Love how tender the succulent the duck is, not too a big fan of the sweet sauce thou, how I wished they could have served with some vinegar & crushed garlic and chilli, it will be sooo nice. Nevertheless it is still a good dish.

"Shin

Taiwanese porridge ($1.50++) come in a attractive price, the reason why I said it is, is because this porridge is full of sweet potatoes cubes, and the porridge has fully infused with the sweetness and earthiness of the sweet potoates. Comes in a big bowl too. 🙂

"Shin

Mabo Tofu ($16++) a staple of what my husband always order from Chinese restaurant, comes it generous amount of silky tofu cubes and a savory bean sauce. Again this got to go with white steamed rice ($1.50++) , to my husband, he can probably polished off 2 bowls of white rice with just this, I think this is okay, but not the best I have ever tried thou.

"Shin

Now this is something different, Steamed Pork Buns ($4.80++). At this price, it is not exactly cheap, but each come in fist size. Pillowy steamed bun or mantou, wrapped around this big chunk of stewed pork belly, filled with preserved vegetables, something that is really good for breakfast too. 🙂

"Shin

Taiwan Fried Noodles with Pork and Vegetables ($16++), well.. let’s just say my whole family wasn’t a big fan of it, it was just way too greasy for us and the noodles were in really chunky slices, sort of like mega size fettucine, I guess it is supposed to soak up all the gravy it has, but rather, it actually soak up the oil, and the vegetables also didn’t help to tone it down too. I guess I will stick to rice dishes next time. 🙂

"Shin

Next, Pan fried Oyster Omelette ($14++), it is very crispy with chunks of oyster (small ones), spring onions and fried starch spreading evenly. They served this with sweet syrupy dipping sauce as well, and I would have wanted some sour chilli sauce, that will pair up perfectly. I like the spring onions, it actually kind of renewed my palate every time I bite into it.

"Shin

After all the heavy savory food, there is just one way to go, sweet ending! Yeah 🙂 We had Almond Jelly ($4.80++), Taiwan style Taro Paste ($5++) and Glutinous Rice Ball ($Complimentary).

The Almond Jelly is something I look forward to, and when I tried this version, it gave a whole new meaning to it. It does not come in jelly like, but chunky slices, and it is more like a texture of dried tofu or Tau Kwa. When you bite into it, it has this slight al dente texture and addictive, with the sweet syrup, it made me a happy diner. 🙂

"Shin

Taiwan Style Taro Paste ($5++), is really beautifully decorated, and I even feel a little guilty having to mix this all up. The taro paste have the right amount of sweetness and the gorgeous velvety texture make this a handsdown winner for the dessert department. 🙂

"Shin

Glutinous rice balls is a complimentary dish on the house, and comes in this little chewy morsels coated with soya bean powder.

Oh, by the way, they also serve vegetarian dishes too. 🙂

All in all, Shin Yeh served good Taiwanese food, and my husband and I are more than happy to go back there to try on other favourites. Can’t Wait. 🙂
