During my staycation at Festive Hotel at Resort World Sentosa<\/a>, was able to squeeze in some time at the end of the stay to get some Fung Wong Confectionery at Malaysia Food Street which my colleague has been raving about, saying that they tasted great even is cold so I am looking forward to trying it. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

The last time I tried it was when I was in JB a few years back and my friend brought me to eat some very nice Char Siew Siew Bao and there after, I didn’t seem to be able to find it in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Anyway back to Fung Wong Confectionery, they are famous in KL, it is actually a home based pastry business with more than 100 years. They sell wedding biscuits, Char Siew Siew Bao and Egg tarts too.<\/p>\n

So I got myself a few of each of their creation and happily bringing home, hopefully get\u00a0to test the theory of eating it without reheating it. If it is really as good as my colleague has mentioned. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

The day I was there, there are\u00a04 kinds of pastries available. Baked Char Siew Siew Bao, Chicken pie, Kaya Pie\u00a0and Egg Tart. Although they have Kaya Pie, I didn’t feel like eating any sweet stuff, so I didn’t get it this time round.<\/p>\n

Each cost around\u00a0$1.50 each which is not bad given the size of it.<\/p>\n

Oh you can also\u00a0use your Genting\u00a0points to redeem your purchase over here.\u00a0I\u00a0also see quite a few aunties\u00a0buying the ready made boxes as well. And if you wonder how the pastries are made, you can also get to see the bakery chefs live in action too\u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Egg Tart ($1.30 each)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Egg tart pastry is the flaky kind you get in any good dim sum place. As I am from Macau, I personally do not like how some egg tarts come in the solid tart base rather than the original flaky pastry. I felt the essence of an egg tart is by\u00a0how silky smooth\u00a0the egg custard filling being hold up by a light multi layer feathery like pastry base.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And it definitely\u00a0must\u00a0gives off a very nice sweet and savory combination. Over here at Fung Wong Confectionery, although they have used flaky pastry but the pastry I felt was too limpy, perhaps because the pastry was not thick enough, the egg custard tasted a little blend too. I wonder if the egg tart has been in the oven for a couple of mins more, it might turned out better, perhaps a little more crisp. Here it is just too pale to my likings.<\/p>\n

Char Siew Siew Bao ($1.50 each) <\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the must have when you visit them and you probably would have guessed seeing how they start bringing trays and trays where diners can easily just get 6 – 12 in\u00a0one go.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The Char Siew Siew Bao comes in quite a\u00a0decent size and are baked just nice with a golden brown top and also a thin yet firm pastry. The fillings comes in also\u00a0decent chunky chicken cubes with a very savory fillings, the fillings is a little bit more savory than sweet but I like the tenderness of the chicken and goes well with pastry. I have it cold actually and it was still pleasantly good without any greasy after effect.<\/p>\n

Chicken Pie ($1.50 each)<\/strong><\/p>\n

And now comes my\u00a0favorite, it turned out to be\u00a0the chicken pie \ud83d\ude42 ok compared to Chicken Char Siew Siew Bao, fillings tad\u00a0lesser, pastry texture is different but with more bite to it\u00a0because of the top pastry which have this hint of sweetness in it, it is like the sugary baked top of Bolo Bao \ud83d\ude42 .<\/p>\n

The full bodied savory taste of the fillings find their match with the sweetness from the pastry, party in the mouth indeed. It is also\u00a0so delicate that just one bite and is all it takes to crumble. \ud83d\ude42 oh so good.<\/p>\n

Overall, a decent place to go for if you want an affordable snack at Resort World Sentosa or keep it as a late night snack in the hotel room. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
