Hi there

I have always wanted to go to Greenwich V ever since I received an leaflet at the MRT station, got me thinking about My Village at Serangoon Garden. So over Mother’s Day, my husband decided to bring me and my son to celebrate with a Mother’s Day lunch there. 🙂

Lunch was really…. ok… didn’t impress me a bit as you will find out in my future post.. 😛 but everything changed to A BIG FAT HAPPY NOTE, literally in a split second after I stepped into Mooshi bakes at Greenwich V. 🙂

"Mooshi

Mooshi Bakes is the sister bakery of Awfully Chocolate, so you will find that they are sharing the same roof. They specialises in Asian style breads with a European & Japanese touch.

"Mooshi

They have a few star items, but one of their must buy is the Mooshi Cream Puff which will only be filled with delightful feathery light cream upon order. And you will get to know just why I say they serve Pillowy Bread on Cloud 9 or rather make it close to 10. 🙂

"Mooshi

I personally like Awfully Chocolate cake, only their original chocolate cake range, nothing fancy but when it comes to their new chocolate concoction.. well let’s just say although they all looks very appetizing, it is just something about the original moist chocolate cake which reminds me of good old school chocolate cake, just no nonsense pure chocolate delight.

So the question is just what’s make them qualify to make bread too? 🙂

"Mosshi

Ok, let’s talk a little bit about Greenwich V, I suppose not many people know this place as it is still pretty new, it is a small cosy little mall just down at Seletar Road, you might mistaken it for some condo if you did not pay much attention, but this is why I like this place, lovely the way it is.

It host quite a few good restaurant outlets, like Paradise Inn, BBQ Chicken, Cedele, Rakuichi, Empire State, Selvin Tarts, etc. However, what got me all excited is still Mooshi Bakes.

"Mooshi

I don’t know if it is the bright minimalist concept they have, the very simplistic approach make the adorable looking breads stand out against the very lush greenery backdrop.

"Mooshi

They bake their own bread freshly from the store, and once you enter the store, you will be greeted by a variety of breads and cakes. Mooshi Bakes specialities consist of Mooshi Cream Puff, Warm apple Crumbe, Pandan Tart, and many other bread creations.

"Mooshi

Their cakes and tarts look so tempting too! But I got to stay focus to get the bread, as it is easier for me to carry with my son in tow. 🙂 But I will be back.

"Mooshi

They also sell Mooshi baguette at $3.80 each, nicely packed for you to bring home. 🙂

You can also get to see the baking live in action, I was just standing there and checking out how he press the dough into the mold, and all I thought was just how soft the dough was, it does not look like any other bread dough I have come across.

"Mooshi

They also have alfresco seating too, if you find it is a little too hot, just pop into the store instead, nice comfy sofa chair just right the corner to the rescue, get a good book, and order a coffee with a nice freshly baked bread.. nice..

"Mooshi

While I was there, they have just brought out some Japanese curry bread, I am telling you, Japanese curry bread is going everywhere, you can find it in so many stores now, and of course as usual my husband need to try it. 🙂

Pies are also available, but I thought the price was a little too steep given the size, so resisted in getting one. Mushroom Pie at $6.90 & Chicken Pie is at $6.90 too.

"Mooshi

And how can I not get their famous Mooshi Cream Puff, a must buy recommened by the staff, they even ask me to get 4 as they were having promotion, but as I am not a very big fan of cream puffs, decided to get 1 instead just to try it out.

"Mooshi

And to my surprise, the staff asked me what fillings flavour I like and I have a choice of either custard and cream, so I checked with him which is the better one, and he gave me a big smile and said “Cream”. 🙂

Next thing I know, he brought my cream puff to the back of the counter, and start to pipe in some fresh cream! wow, that is something new, usual puff I have is already piped in, so this is something different.

"Mosshi

This is the freshly piped cream puff, looks very delicious, just finger cross that looks can be deceiving does not apply to this case. 🙂

"Mooshi

Only 5 mins in the store, and I am coming out a happy shopper with boxes of breads to be indulged, all the bread are placed nicely into boxes, so that you won’t squash it along the way, the bread are really soft & delicate. 🙂

"Mooshi

Now come the taste test. First off, Apple Crumble ($9.90), this huge slap of apple crumble is not for the faint hearted, it is so big that they need to get a huge spatula to scoop this out. I guess that’s why it cost so much for a slice.

"Mooshi

Taste wise, I love the apple slices in between the crumble and the sponge cake. They are somewhat different from the normal apple crumble you get it from else where. But what I didn’t fancy that much is the crumble and the sponge.

The crumble was too soft to my likenings, I like crumble that is sweet and crunchy so that when pair up with the slighly tangy apple slices, will leave you wanting for more in every bite. The sponge base didn’t do much justice too, as it makes every bite a little too moist or rather soggy. If only it can be a tad crunchy then it will be a really good apple pie.

"Mooshi

Ta-Ta~ , now comes the puff 🙂

The Mooshi Cream Puff ($3.90) is not that big in size, slightly smaller than the ones you get from Papa Beard, but don’t underestimate this at all, this really packs a punch!

"Mooshi

One reason why I do not fancy cream puff is well… the cream. I do not like things that are too creamy especially on cakes and for me white cream is really not something I will crave for. But I just fall over heels with the cream they have in these little puff.

The cream is really one of the best I have tried and I am talking about one of the best I tried in Japan, feathery light with a hint of sweetness, that linger in your mouth until you immediately take a second bite. Pure heavenly, if I am not a fan of cream and said this is good, then this is reaaaallly good. The puff itself is just as good, a lot of bite to it, slight crunchy on the coating and flaky on the inside. 🙂

"Mooshi

Next is the Coffee Nutella ($1.80) , didn’t think I will get this as it is Coffee flavor, but as it look so adorable, with icing sugar dusting over it, it remind me of coffee with a shot of hazelnut syrup and somehow remind me of Christmas. Yeah I know, strange isn’t it, but there is just something about icing sugar, it always remind me of it. 🙂

The Coffee Nutella has a crunchy sugary coating, much like a hybrid between a Bolo Pao and a Coffee Bun. And when you cut open it, there are scoop of nutella cream in it. Love it. Even my husband who do not like Nutella said this is good.

"Mooshi

And after indulging on all the sweet stuff, let’s move on to savory ones. We also picked the Boat Bun as this is like a pizza bread, and guys like pizza bread right? 🙂

My husband ate it for breakfast, cold and said it is still very good. The only thing that bugs him was the paper that wrapped around the bread, it is hard to take out and he had to peel the bread out as it get all stuck into the baking paper.

"Mooshi

Mooshi Curry Dozo ($1.80) is fried nicely with a crispy brown top just the way how it should be done. When I cut it, I thought the bread was way too much and the fillings was way too little. But after I tried it, then I began to understand that it works too!

The bread at Mooshi bread are really really soft, and even though the Curry Dozo looks a little too doughy, you will be surprised to find out that the bread feels so light, you do not feel you just got into any carbo attack. Curry fillings is flavourful, but I could find strange bits of carrots in it, those frozen carrot cubes to be exact, other than that, it is good.

"Mooshi

Next is the Red Pesto Chicken Bun ($1.80), yet another very soft mooshi bread, with some savory creamy red pesto chicken fillings. There are bits of mushroom and chicken in it.

You see, the bread is so soft and light, most of the bread I find has this hollow area at the top of the bread, and the fillings are all at the bottom. I wonder what the dough is make of. Taste wise, I find this is a bit blend, but my husband said he loves this and find it very flavourful, guess you will be the judge of it. 🙂

"Mooshi

Ah.. Apple Daily ($1.80) . One of my favourite bread here at Mooshi, they have these small cubes of apple with cinnamon flavor wrapped around by really flavourful cream cheese, sitting cosily in this soft bun. A pure delight, this bread is so soft that I have difficulty just to cut it into half and show you the fillings.

Seriously, I really do not mind Apply Daily literally.

"Mooshi

Their Anpan ($1.80) which is red bean bread looks so cute, it looks like a butter roll with red bean in it, actually it tasted like one too. Anpan filling is not very sweet and just the right amount in the bun.

I don’t usually get Anpan in other bakeries because I find they add in way too much Anpan and it is so much hassle to scoop it out, needless to say more of something is not always good, it compromise the balance and the taste. But here, the amount is just perfect.

"Mosshi

And finally come the highlight which is also their most popular and best seller. The Mooshimooshi ($1.80). It must be good if you are so confident that you can name the bread twice the name as your bakery. haha.. I was again not disappoint at all, this bread is like Krispy Kreme donuts with cream cheese and raisins fillings. They have this lovely glace on the bread, which makes it taste like you are eating a donut.

The cream cheese gives it a savory kick, while the use of green raisins is a perfect match. You usually get cream cheese raisin buns with red raisins which can be rather sweet sometimes, but the use of green raisins gives it a slight tang and fruity flavour.

"Mosshi

Yet another bread with a hollow top, I guess I will leave it as a mystery for now. 🙂

"Mosshi

They are running a promotion now for Mooshi Cream Puff, 4 at $12.90, which means buy 3 get 1 free. Do try it out, and you will know what it means by Cloud 9. 🙂

"Mooshi

If I have to very picky, the only thing I could think of when it comes to their bread is you might need to indulge in more than 1 bread to fill up your tummy so don’t expect that you can get away with just a couple of them.

I think every bakery has their niche, and for Mooshi Mooshi, it must be how their bread are so pillowy, soft to the core which you don’t find in other places. I know I will be back for more, let myself immerse just a little while more in this day dream of pillowy soft bread. 🙂
