CAFE LE CAIRE KAMPONG GLAM – PITA BREAD & DIPS FEAST AHEAD

Hi there

I absolutely love Kampong Glam area, whenever my friends from overseas return, we will usually head out there to enjoy the pita bread and dips and chat the whole afternoon away.

Of course at night you can see tonnes of people and that is also where the shisha actions are, but I love to go during the day when it is still quiet and peaceful and all you want is to just kick back, sip my iced peppermint tea with a wide range of varieties of dips and pita bread over great conversations. 🙂

We have been to quite a few restaurants and cafes so we were exploring for new places and we found this no frills Cafe Le Caire, literally no frills = no air conditioning, but lately it has been breezy so its all good. Cafe Le Caire served Middle Eastern cuisine, and they have several restaurants, and lounge too, the one we go to is kinda like food court style, really no frills kind.

Pricing for all the hummus and dips are really reasonable too, $5 for one and if you are aiming for something more interesting, go for the mezze, which is a variety of pickles, dips and olives, $16 with pita bread or arabic bread.

Love the hummus, sesame dips and the egg plants. Not too much fancy the feta cheese although it is really savory and flavorful.

I also very seldom eat mutton, but if I am there, I will also look for mutton dishes, somehow the mutton dishes served over at Kampong Glam always does not have gamy taste and I love it. This is good, mutton meat ball with tomato base sauce with roasted pine nuts ($9) , yummm…. dipped with some toasty pita bread… omg.

My dining partner opt for the kebab which served with very savory rice, the grains are cooked so fluffy, and it goes well with the sauce of the chicken. I like how there are raisins in the sauce as well, give it a little sweet after taste. 🙂 Cost around $10.

All in all, with drinks, the bill comes out to around $50 for 2 pax, because “yes”, we over ordered, we actually need to take it away, haha… but I like the reasonable pricing and also variety over here, and can’t wait to come back here again. 🙂
