Hi there
My household quite often cook up various kinds of pasta, and some of the flavours that I like the most include Soya Sauce Cream Pasta and Miso Cream Pasta aside the traditional tomato base and cream base kind. 🙂
This time round I wanted to cook some really simple bacon mushroom pasta so I opted for Miso Cream Pasta with Mushroom & Bacon 🙂
With a dash of Japanese flavour in it. You can use any kind of miso, and you will be quite surprise just how cream goes well with miso paste.
For the mushroom, I went for the Korean mushrooms. I like how the chewy texture is like and the creamy texture is always nice with mushroom.
Portion ratio is quite important, try not to put too much mushrooms nor bacon in it, as this will mask the miso cream flavour with too much savoriness.
Ingredients needed (feeds 2) :
- Bacon x 3 slices
- Mushroom x 1/4 bunch
- Spring Onions x 1 stalk
- Cooking cream or whipping cream x 1/2 box
- Miso x 1 tablespoon
- Penne or Spaghetti x 2 portions
- Butter x 1 slice & olive oil
- Japanese cooking wine (mirin) x 1 tablespoon
- Directions :
- Boil Pasta until al dente
- Our a little oil in a non stick fry pan and add the slice of butter in it
- Brown the bacon, follow by mushroom and fry until fragrant, about 1 min
- Add the miso paste and Japanese cooking wine and cook for a further 1 min, add cream and cook until the cream boils.
- Toss in the cooked penne or spaghetti and mixed the pasta sauce
- Sprinkle some chopped spring onions just before serving.
Besides using bacon and mushroom as ingredients, you can also opt for roast chicken and asparagus as well. If you have japanese seaweed, it is also good to sprinkle some over it too.
This pasta is great if you want to pack it to work as well, usually I will use Tabasco with my pasta, but I like this without it, as you can taste the creamy miso and wouldn’t feel like ruin the flavour with some hot spicy sauce. 🙂
However if you do want some kick, sprinkle chilli powder or even add fresh cut chillis when you are cooking the bacon and mushroom. 🙂
This dish is very quick and tasty, I am sure your family will be quite surprise that miso can even be used for pasta as well. 🙂
Happy Cooking!
