My son has been eyeing for this pack of pop corn for quite sometime whenever we go to Daiso, it all started his “first official popcorn session” when I brought him to watch his first movie in the cinema and whenever we talked about movie, he will just say popcorn ^^”
I think I have quite a handful of experience making popcorn, using those packets sold at supermarkets, just microwave couple of minutes and you have all these puffy savory popcorn, the butter salt flavour has always been my favourite when I make it at home, which is why I only eat sweet caramel popcorn in theatre. 🙂
So after a little discussion of how he will be a good boy at home watching our favourite show, I have made a deal to purchase this and the fact that he still could not understand how a flat pack can turn into a big pack of popcorn excites him a lot too. 🙂
When I bought it, I saw there were 2 flavours, if I am not wrong, the other is the sweet flavour, but I got this pack of butter salt.
After opening the plastic pack, you will have this paper pack which has some pop corn kernels and you can see from the photo, it has this black patch in the pack, that is where the heat will fire up the pop corn, and all the popping magic happens. 🙂
Even if you do not read Japanese, the picture and the numbers should be quite easy to understand.
Basically you will need to lay the popcorn flat, blue dot picture face up, under high heat, just let it microwave for 2 and a half min, I feel this varies, because each microwave has different power, so I recommend you do 2 mins or until you can hear the popping sound happening every second.
By the time it is done, you will hear the popping sound popping non stop, remember don’t over do it, because they will get burnt easily, all by my experience, haaha.. even my son broke out a popping dance while hearing it.
So once it is done, you can see the whole bag all puffed up.
Give it a good shake before you open it, and be careful, as there is a lot of heat in the pack, once it is opened, there will be a lot of steam, don’t let the little ones do it. 🙂
So this is how it looks like, pretty good right? All looks like little white flowers.
Alright now come the taste test. The pop corn has a rather thick buttery smell, and is quite salty too, so it is good for sharing, is it the best? I won’t say it is, but it serves the purpose of satisfying the snacking part of watching a movie.
Those brands I bought from supermarket taste better because I usually get the less salt version, and also they are a bit more generous on the butter flavour too, but I will still like to try the sweet ones from this Daiso brand. 🙂
