Hi there
Okinawa has always hold a special place in my heart as my husband is from there, and I am also very glad that Singapore also has quite a few Okinawa restaurants that cater to people like us who miss this Japanese off beat local delicacies. 🙂
So far my family and I count Nirai Kanai Liang Court Okinawa Restaurant as one of the best and better still very affordable. 🙂
Hidden at the basement of Liang court, Nirai Kanai Liang Court Okinawa Restaurant is frequently patronized by local Japanese community for their delicious Okinawa home style cooking.
I love how their décor is rustic and have such a nice ambience when you go with your family or just go drinking with a few friends.
As this is Okinawa food, you might find it rather different from other main stream Japanese food.
And of course, which Japanese restaurant doesn’t serve a good assortment of alcoholic beverages. 🙂
To start our Okinawa meal off, we usually get the vinegar seaweed with sliced cucumbers, it has this really nice tangy flavour, and you slurp the seaweed which in contrast the crunchy cucumber slices make this appetizer so irresistible.
This seaweed is not only tasty, but it is also very very healthy, and is a stable in Okinawa.
Next is the bitter gourd, another local delicacies from Okinawa as well, because Okinawa is really blazing during summer, these cool bitter gourds tends to cool down the body and is hugely popular there.
They always cook it with tofu slices, eggs, spam etc, it is so good!! Definitely comfort food.
And this peanut tofu, with the sweet syrup and a bit of grated ginger, is my son favourite, it is like eating pudding dessert actually.
And of course, the most famous dish in Okinawa is handsdown, Okinawa Soki Soba, very different from the regular Japanese soba you eat. The pork bone broth with the chewy soba and slices of melt in your mouth pork ribs, OUT OF THIS WORLD!
I love to add the condiments of chilli in awamori (Okinawa famous alcohol), instantly lift the dish in no time!
When ever I go back to Okinawa, I always make a mental note to bring back all these goodies. But I must say Nirai Kanai is really as close and authentic as you can get in Singapore.  🙂
Oh my son also love their mixed rice, with seaweed sprouts, carrots and meat, savory and the rice just cooked nicely, full of texture.
So if you want to experience a slice of Okinawa life style, head to Nirai Kanai Liang Court Okinawa Restaurant for that experience.:) By the way, try their set lunch first, very affordable to start off with. 🙂
