REUNION DINNER & THINGS TO DO FOR THE NEXT 15 DAYS OF CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR

So how was your Reunion Dinner so far? Mine was really nice, cosy Reunion family dinner, with the little one joining us, a nice family affair.

Got our usual “must have” catonese dishes, like Pork Trotter with Sea Moss and Mushroom, Vegetables with seafood, fermented bean paste with nam yue (fermented bean curd) stewed duck, steamed fish, chicken, soup and of course yu sheng and also abalone slices.

I will be posting some of the recipes later on, this is not just good for Chinese New Year, it is also a very tasty and easy treat that you can cook on normal days too. 🙂

Reunion DInner

As for the next 15 days, if you wish to follow the tradition then you can view below things to do for the next 15 days of Chinese New Year for some inspiration 🙂

Chinese New Year Eve – Reunion Dinner, where all family members will gather at parents family and enjoy each other company.

Day One – Buddhist will abstain from eating any meats and is the time to visit families and friends to give your well wishes and of course Ang Pao time! Offer any kind of sweet sugary stuff to visitors to ensure they have a very sweet year ahead. 🙂

Day Two – This will be day when son in law or married daughters going back to their family for visits. This is also the Birthday of Dogs, so treat all pets well. 🙂

Day Three – This is the Day of 赤口, which is not for visiting families and friends, but rather it is time to go to the temple to ask for one’s future and fortune

Day Four – similar to Day Three

Day Five – Get into the festive mood of North Eastern China, enjoy your dumplings and you can start sweeping the floor again!

Day Six – As usual, can visit friends and families and temples

Day Seven – Everyone’s Birthday!! Time for some longevity noodles and tossing of yu sheng!

Day Eight – Join Fujian people and enjoy another round of Reunion dinner

Day Ninth – Birthday of Jade Emperor, didn’t seem to have any restriction on this day

Day Ten to Twelve – Same as usual, enjoy time with your families and friends and continue your visits.

Day Thirtheen – You are suppose to clear your tummy and palate and go vegetarian after feasting for the past days

Day Fourteen – Preparation and count down to 元宵节, Lantern Festival Day

Day Fifteen – This is Day of 元宵节, which is Oriental Valentine’s Day, have your tang yuan, sweet dumplings and kids – prepare your lanterns! 🙂

So this it is, after days of preparation, from clothing to food, to spring cleaning, now is the time to let loose and enjoy your time with your families and friends. 🙂
