Hi there

When it comes to Natto, Japanese fermented beans, you either love it or hate it, but surprisingly for myself, I hated it at first and now I am eating it every week.

This slimy fermented beans are so humble and so healthy, now I really understand why Japanese loves it. Every week, I need my fix by going to Meidiya japanese supermarket and get my weekly supply.

There are various ways of eating it, but I like to eat it with cucumbers or if I feel like splurging, goes with Maguro tuna or Ika squid sashimi, both are really good too!

Maguro Natto quick and simple recipes

As Natto contains not just one but many healthy components like calcium, iron, protein, potassium, magnesium and many others, it is really power food.

Ika Natto quick and simple recipes

It is so easy to prepare as well, basically just mix the natto with the dressing given in the pack, which is usually dashi or some flavoured dressing, mixed it until it goes all gooey and slimy and then pour it over the rest of the ingredients, it is so simple, you can even make it simplier by just adding mustard or wasabi, it taste equally great.

So during my last trip, I decided to go somewhere interesting and ended up at Sugamo, which is an area they called “Obachan Harajuku” haha… it never fails to cracks me up whenever I think of this name which means Harajuku a really hip place in Tokyo, however this is for old ladies and I must say I looooovveeee this place!

Black and brown sesame cubes

And because it is an area for old people, you can find a lot of really interesting gourmet like Shio daifuku which is salted mochi, and then I found this Sesame Store which sells everything sesame, I took nearly every item they have and especially these brown and black sesame cubes, and also coated walnuts. It was soooo good!

Hi there

I love these Yatsuhashi cookies from Japan, even though I am not a huge fan in cinnamon cookies. Got this as a gift, and I think I had managed to try this a few times when I have friends who go to Japan for holidays, sometimes they will get this because it comes with this really cute metal tin box.

These traditional cookies has a slight chewy texture and since it is dipped in chocolate coating, it gives a nice texture and just couple pieces and I am already very satisfied.

Hi there

By now you should pretty much know I am a supermarket fanatic and I just lovvveeeee supermarkets and wet markets, and every country I go, if time permits, I will make my way to there. And if I am in Japan, my must go destination always include Tsukiji wet market. πŸ™‚

Tsukiji must do

I always start off with some really good sushi there, I know, this sushi looks so pretty right!!?? Β After sushi at the Tsukiji inner market, I will move on to the outer market where all the real actions for me start. πŸ™‚

Tsukiji must do

Take note of one thing, you need to take the train to the Tsukijishijo station and not Tsukiji station if you want to go to the wet market, it is just only a short 5 mins walk from there.
