Hi there
I have always wanted to go for cooking class and see how people teach cooking. I am always amazed by how some chef who are so well versed in their craft, and how I wish I could be like them too.
Okay I know a thing or two about cooking, but it sure doesn’t hurt to know more a bit about food and where they are from 🙂 But with all the mummy duties together with all the full time working, it can be quite hard sometimes.
However there are certainly somewhere you can get a crash course in cooking, may it be beginner or even expert, get inspirations and also pick up a couple new techniques or two along the way. 🙂 And that brought me to AFC at Orchard Central. AFC is Asian Food Channel, that yummilicious channels with so many food shows to boot.
And if you are like me, who are short of time but who wanted to refresh your cooking passion once in a while, this place may be just where you need to unwind and channel your inner chef in you. 🙂
To be honest, the biggest draw for me at the point of signing up is seeing a Groupon deal on this AFC cooking class, with prices slashed half, but is still a mere $15 each, I told myself, there is nothing much I can loose, so that embark my first cooking class experience! Located on the 7th floor of Orchard Central, it is tuck at a quiet corner which is opposite Lao Beijing Chinese Restaurant.
Its not difficult to not like the place, literally. The place is so colorful packed with cooking books, kitchen gadgets, and many interesting and cool gift ideas, it will take you sometime to slowly browse through what they have in store for you.
The color tone of yellow, green and white just makes you think about fresh produce and once you step into the AFC studio, you can get that instant refreshing mood and all fired up for an exciting culinary experience. 🙂
Although the place is not very big, it is cosy enough to fit more than 20 pax to gather and see master chef in action.
AFC studio host quite many cooking classes, ranging from savory to sweets, sweets and more sweets! My friend and I both have a understanding that we wanted to go for some classes that conducts savory menu.
And once I saw the “Thai Cocktail Party with Chef Robert Danhi”, I know this is the one we wanted to sign up, with all these Thai Cocktail Party ideas, this is just the perfect way to kick start our cooking class experience.
As I mentioned they carry many interesting kitchen gadgets, and I just can’t help to snap a photo on these cutesy bunny grinder. Definitely something that will perk up the kitchen, isn’t it. 🙂
They also have a counter serving some simple cakes, pastries and drinks, and you can just chill there during the day.
And there is definitely no harm that you can always order a drink or two during the cooking class too.
And menu for the night for Chef Wannabes, TA-TA~
- Spiced Mango Cocktail
- Sweet & Spicy Pork Ribs
- Red Curry Shrimp Cakes
- Coconut Crusted Peanuts
- Fire Roasted Eggplant
- Coconut jelly with banana
If you are sitting at the back row? No worries, there is also a large LCD TV right next to the chef which shows all the actions in a closer view, how thoughtful indeed. 🙂
As the venue is starting to pack up, chefs and helpers are all ready to bring us a wonderful night of good food and good company. 🙂
Besides learning all these new recipes plus a whole lot of brain storming and inspiration of new recipes in 2 hours time, you can also get to sample these yummy food too! 🙂
It also doesn’t hurt the chef is so well versed in Thai cooking, and also very entertaining throughout the whole cooking class. The cooking class was conducted in such a way even amateurs will have no problem to follow. They give you ideas to look for alternatives instead of rigid choices of ingredients, which is a big draw to me.
And at the end of it, you do have the option to get the cook book published by the chef at a discounted price, oh with it autographed as well. 🙂
Well, did I have a good time at my first cooking class – NO. Just because I have a BLAST there! 😀 And I will definitely be back for more and happily pay the full price when I wanted to take a break and draw out some inspiration from some cooking classes.
Do check out this place and you can visit their website www.theafcstudio.com if you wanted to sign up their classes. 🙂
