Hi there
I have some of my high school friends coming from macau and they have specifically ask me to bring them to try out TWG at ion to round off their Singapore trip. But hey just how does TWG part of Singapore tourist attraction?
But I have no complaints as I have yet to try it out. I know I know, very late for not trying but it is so hard to go there with my families, I will be scare half dead if my son started to play drums on the fine china. Anyway, finally this gives me a very good excuse to try it out and experience just how cosy (or costly) an afternoon session can be. 🙂
At 2pm, the queue already started and you have to wait an average of 20 mins or more for a table as they do not allow reservations during that prime hours which is afternoon tea.
However i have no qualms about the waiting at all because you get to see so many different interesting kind of tea products, tea sets, candles.
Staff were courteous, I was actually expecting a smirk or two:P  but the staff although a bit more flamboyant nevertheless was very helpful.
I sat there for 10 mins waiting for my friends when one of them came apologetically told me that if my friends could not be here then I might need to give up my seats as the queue is getting crazy, quite suprised by it but having to say that I also feel bad, do after some frantic calls, they reached and we get to start our lovely afternoon tea. Phew, what a close call.
We have 4 “ladies” so we ordered 2 sets of high tea set plus 2 extra pot of tea so that everyone can get to have their own pot of English tea.
The very shiny china does rub a bit on me, you kind feel this instant elegance and inevitably tilt your little pinkie when savor every sip of the elegant tea. Haha..
Okay, now comes to the high tea delights. At near $40 bucks a set a set, it does not come cheap, but the quality is there, and some of the items are actually the best I have tried too.
The high tea set consist of below :
CHIC $32
• TWG Tea
– Imperial set under Chic High Tea Set:
– Foie gras,
Chicken with Comptoir des Indes Tea infused with crème fraîche,
Cucumber with cream cheese infused Earl Grey Fortune.
• Choice of 2 freshly baked scones or muffins served with
TWG Tea jelly and whipped cream or 1 patisserie from our trolley
FORTUNE $39
• TWG Tea
– warm toasted sandwich form the TWG Tea Croque Imperial Set
– Warm toasted sandwich with Gruyère cheese and smoked salmon,
– served with a delicate green salad and house vinaigrette.
• Choice of 2 freshly baked scones or muffins served with
TWG Tea jelly and whipped cream or 1 patisserie from our trolley
• A choice of 3 macarons
I am no tea connoisseur and usually pick flavors that revolve earl grey and darjarleen, so scanning through I know what I want along the line. Fruity flavor is good to serve icy cold but not so much hot as I don’t enjoy the after taste which can be rather sour for some blend. They have over 500 kinds to choose from, mind boggling or just spoilt for choice. 🙂
I don’t know if it is the overall ambience, but I find the whole experience really nice, I like the small sandwiches which goes really well with the tea.
All these placed so nicely on the tier hi tea plates with salad greens drizzle with balsamic vinegar over it.
Although the Ion Orchard branch is quite small, it does utilise its space to the max, haha… tables are pretty closed to one another.
Little pinkie tea sipping time 🙂
Ah… my favourite scones and muffins~
Scones is a very simple affair but go with the fresh cream and preserve and you literally felt like being transported to the old England, the creamy yet fruity sensation is effortless captivating in every bite. This is really the ultimate original way of how to savor scones.
The muffin effortlessly tingle your taste buds and you just can’t wait to have a second bite. Sandwiches are nicely put together with layers of ingredients waiting to be unfold.
Overall it cost nearly $150 for 4 pax, costly? yes, but great experience? YES YES YES!
I will still go back there, but perhaps try out their brunch menu 🙂
One thing though, TWG is a great place to get all your sourvenirs for overseas friends, what’s better than have a pack of Singapore tea. 🙂 I have put this down in my note to buy when my friends come over to Singapore again. 😀
