RESTAURANT REVIEWS – RAMEN PLAY AT 313@SOMERSET

Hi there,

As my previous post mentioned, I was at 313@ Somerset checking out Coco Ichibanya, but decided to take a rain check and go for something else instead. And here we are.. at Ramen Play instead.

As my husband is very picky about his ramen, and Ramen Play is one of the ramen place where my husband sealed a stamp of approval to, we decided to check out their new menu.

If you have read other of my posting on Ramen Play, they currently do have several promotions like summer menu promotions, tea time promotions etc..

RESTAURANT REVIEWS – CANTON RECIPE HOUSE BY CHEF KANG

Hi there,

Remember one of my post about the Heavenly Feast menu by Canton Recipe House, the new restaurant that is opened by the award winning chef – Chef Kang? I went over the other day to try out this heavenly feast menu & decided to do a restaurant reviews on this.

Canton Recipe House located at Parc Soverign Hotel, the new hotel that is just next to Lasalle School of Arts. Inside the restaurant, there are a few tables, which should able to sit about 70  – 90 people. It is hidden at the corner of the Parc Soverign Hotel, next to 7/Eleven.

Outside the restaurant, there are many posters showing many meal sets they have for 2 pax, 4 pax, etc. I was expecting it to be a quiet lunch but to my surprise there are actually quite a few customers in there.

Well back to this Heavenly Feast menu which they advertised, original price of $698+, now this “Chef’s Exquisite Set Menu” 50% off at $349+.

Dishes include :

  • Superior Shark’s Fin in Hot Stone Bowl
  • Abalone in Chef’s Special Sauce
  • Deep-fried Garlic Soon Hock Fish
  • Chickenwith Spring Onion
  • Pork Ribs in Wasabi Plum Sauce
  • 3-Egg Garlic Ensemble with Vegetables
  • Lobster Ee-fu Noodles
  • Dessert Delicacy

The side dish to snack on is the usual braised peanuts, the braised peanuts were tasty & cooked just nice, unlike some that are served in some Chinese restaurant that can be over salty & overcooked.

RESTAURANT REVIEWS – HUMMERSTONS – BREAKFAST + LUNCH = BRUNCH!

Hi there,

I was on my quest to collect my husband’s birthday cake at mohammad sultan from The Patisserie today, and decided to bring my mum and son to have a very special breakfast before the collection.

We searched high & low at Clarke Quay for some quality breakfast, but all we could find is MacDonald’s or food court which I didn’t feel like, where is my hearty breakfast!? So from Central, we slowly search our way to Robertson Quay, but yet again all shops were closed! I guess Clarke Quay is really not a place to find my breakfast, may be late night drinks or snacks will be a better choice…..

When I was nearly on theverge of giving up, I saw a small sign which could easily be mistaken as some salon signage, my curiosity get the better of me, and I went to check it out, and there it is! BRUNCH!!! I was totally ecstatic when I find that it is opened at 10am!! YOHOO!!

RESTAURANT REVIEW – SHIMBASHI SOBA JAPANESE RESTAURANT

Hi there,

Was at Serangoon Nex over the weekend, looking for something light as my family was feeling under the weather lately. My husband recommended to go and eat Japanese soba, so we went to Shimbashi soba to try out their famous handmade buckwheat soba noodles. As it was early lunch, we didn’t get to see any soba making action but only the machine which grinds the soba powder.

RESTAURANT REVIEWS – YONEHACHI AT TAKASHIMAYA (STICKY RICE AT ITS BEST)

Hi there,

Dropped by Takayashimaya the other day for lunch and checked out the mini Taiwan fair over there. Decided to try something new, and went for Yonehachi to try out their sticky rice.

Yonehachi is a small restaurant located at the corner and opposite cold storage cashier exit. It is part of the new revamp of the Takashimaya food area.

They have a variety of mixed sticky rice available. Their most popular one is the red bean sticky rice, the rice they used are carefully selected and it has a good texture that even if the rice is cooled down, it will still be tasty and soft & chewy.

They have quite a few combination, where you could order sets like the saba set, or stewed veges, etc. I opted for the Hiroshima oyster set, which comes with a nice portion of deep fried oysters, one choice of the sticky rice ($12.80 with red bean rice & $13.80 with other flavoured rice) I chosed the chestnut and red bean rice with my deep fried oyster set.

The deep fried oyster was fresh & firm and the breadcrumbs coating was crispy and not oily.  The handmade mayo or tartar sauce is excellent, chunks of boiled eggs mixed into mayo, sinful but delightful, so rather dipping the oyster into it, I resorted to scooping up onto the oyster and eat it all together.

Back to the sticky rice, I must say the combination of chestnut and red bean is great with sticky rice. The chestnut was very sweet, so are the red beans, but rather tasting like a sweet dessert menu, they gave us some black sesame with (I suspect) white bonito powder (furikake), mix a little into the rice, and the saltiness from the powder instantly gave it a perk and make it a savory dish.

Miso soup was nothing much special but was not overly salty which I like, as I find that there are quite a number of Japanese restaurants that serve very salty miso soup, so it defeat the purpose of having that last sip at the end of the meal, when you will need to down a whole glass of water right after.

Service was prompt, ice water is being served without asking, a nice touch. Do drop by to try out this place, or buy some sticky rice sets back home, the lunch crowd is quite good, after I finished my lunch, I already see a long queue waiting to get their hands on these sticky rice.
