I was chatting with my colleagues about nian gao today and also how many ways you can cook it, like steaming it and dip into coconut flakes, deep fried with yam and sweet potato, or the good old, pan fried with eggs. I was also told there are other ways of cooking it, like using popiah skin to wrap around it and deep fried, indeed, there are many ways of cooking it.

So I was checking out where I can get some nian gao this Chinese New Year, well guess it is still not too late, as most promotions only ends on 6 Feb.

CHINESE NEW YEAR PROMOTIONS – PUTIEN CHINESE NEW YEAR TAKEAWAY

Putien has a lot of traditional Chinese New Year goodies for you to bring home this Lunar New Year. 🙂

This is also my choice this year for our Reunion dinner at home too. And I must say this is really one of the good ones I have tried, this one is medium size which is great for about 4 pax.

First off, you can get a Prosperity Yu Sheng (Wolf Herring), a flavorful twist to your usual yu sheng with a toss of their signature seaweed.

Cost $16.80 (S) / $26.80 (M) / $39.80 (L)

The putien seaweed added some crunch to the yu sheng, and my husand and I also agree that that the yu sheng was really flavourful!! The salmon was fresh, which was rather unexpected as this is a chinese restaurant, there is none of the fishy taste.

The sweetness was just nice, we only used half of the peanut oil and the whole yu sheng tasted so fresh. I love how the jelly fish was really crunchy too, fresh pomelo bits and preserved lemon was ultra sweet and the sesame & peanuts was really roasted well and gave it an extra oomph, so I must say this is really one of the better ones I have tried. 🙂

There are also Putien Fried Seaweed ($12.90), Putien Hand made Mee Shua for ($8) and of course the luxury Basin of Goodies, which include Abalone & Shark’s Fin. 6 pax at $298 & 10 pax at $428.

CAROUSEL CHINESE NEW YEAR BUFFET DURING CHINESE NEW YEAR DAY

Carousel is one of the buffet restaurants that will be opened throughout Chinese New Year. 🙂

I just went there 2 weeks back to celebrate my relative’s birthday, and everyone who went there said the spread was good. I enjoyed my fair share of kebabs and mediterranean food. Love the olives!!
