SIMPLE AND QUICK JAPANESE RECIPES – WAFU PASTA JAPANESE PASTA IN MINUTES

Hi there

Wafu pasta (和風) which is japanese style pasta is one genius way of cooking pasta. They are lighter on the palate than some of the popular Italian recipes around, and with that dose of Japanese asian flavours in it, you can create many different pasta dishes.

You can add fish roe, seaweed, pork slices, mushrooms, and many other asian ingredients to this dish, very versatile and for the older generation, they also prefer this flavor as well. 🙂 This time round I have decided to use meihijiki.

Hijiki itself if a seaweed from japan, which has high dietary fibre and essential minerals, and it is good for health and beauty. You can use these for simmered dishes with soya sauce & japanese cooking wine, first look at it, and you might think it looks a bit strange, all short black strings of seaweed, but after cooking you can taste that subtle aroma from the seaweed, and I like how their texture like too, besides it is very easy to prepare too. 🙂

Because this wafu pasta does not come with a lot of sauce, you can cook this and leave it to eat and you won’t feel soggy at all, it is more like fried noodles. 🙂

SIMPLE AND QUICK RECIPES – PINEAPPLE RICE WITH DANCING CHEF

Hi there

Recently I have this keen interest in making rice dishes and few months back, someone mentioned to me about cooking pineapple rice and how simple it can be.

As I have never tried cooking this dish before, sound like something that I love – one pan cooking 🙂 & from recommendation, I bought my first Dancing Chef pineapple rice sauce. 🙂

Of course as usual I will tweak the recipe a little to suit my family and this time I added some ingredients that most of us like. It will be nice to cook from scratch, but I really do not mind to pay just over $1 to get a packet of spices or sauces to make my life easier too. 🙂

When it comes to pineapple rice, there need to be a concentration of flavours, and has to be a melange of sourness, sweetness and spice. A balance between the savory part which is the meat, shrimps and even pork floss and the sweet part which is pineapple, raisins. Of course the crunch from the cashews will give it an extra bite. 🙂

Hi there

I like herbal chicken, the really tender texture of chicken dipped into dark soya sauce with freshly cut chilli is really irresistible.

However I also find it hard to get nice ones in hawker center, for the good ones, the price you pay you get only a small portion which means I have to get a few portions at one go to feed the whole family and that add up the costs.

QUICK AND SIMPLE RECIPES – SALAD USING KWEPIE MENTAIKO DRESSING

Hi there

Spicy fish roe is a delicacies in Japan that it has transform itself to different products. Don’t be surprise if you come across products such as bread, salad dressing, rice balls, potato chips, rice crackers, biscuits with flavours of spicy fish roe (mentaiko).

I am totally a convert to spicy fish roe, the first time I saw my ex-Japanese boss bringing his lunch box packed by his wife, inside his lunch box, it only contains rice, spicy fish roe and a side salad. I was so intrigued that in my Japan trip, I finally bought it from the airport and cooked my first mentaiko spaghetti, and it tasted so yummy and surreal!

The savory of the fish roe and a little hint of spiciness is so addictive, it has zero taste of fishiness yet it is just something that you can’t get your head around, how the flavour can go well with so many food. And from there onwards, I have been hooked, whenever I saw products that is made of spicy fish roe, it will just go straight into my supermarket shopping basket. 🙂
